9 The Great British Sewing Bee (2013-Present)
Love Productions
An unusual idea for a competition show, The Great British Sewing Bee challenges amateur sewers to compete in three themed challenges each episode. This includes reinventing a garment they’ve been given, and creating their own garments from scratch to fit a model. It’s a cross between Project Runway and The Great British Bake-Off, mixing fashion with a more relaxing atmosphere that is sure to entertain and comfort.
8 The Masked Singer (2019-Present)
Fox Entertainment
The Masked Singer sees celebrities dress in outrageous costumes and sing, with their identities being revealed upon their elimination. The premise sounds ridiculous, and it is. However, once you start, it’s hard not to keep watching and seeing who each contestant is. Per Entertainment Weekly, there have been many surprising reveals over the years, like Tony Hawk and Gladys Knight, and fun episode themes like Muppet Week. Get past the ridiculousness, and you’re in for a wild and fun show.
7 Nailed It! (2018-Present) Netflix
Netflix
Inspired by people failing to make the fancy desserts they saw on the internet, Nailed It! features three amateur bakers as they try to replicate professional desserts, with predictably disastrous results. The baking may be horrible, but the show itself is truly hilarious. From host Nicole Byer’s jokes, to the commentary of the judges as they try the (often inedible) food, to the contestants themselves, Nailed It! will instantly put you in a good mood.
6 Kids Baking Championship (2015-Present)
Food Network
The Food Network has many cooking and baking competition shows, but Kids Baking Championship is a little different; rather than adults; it instead features young contestants making things like cakes, pies, and macarons. It’s fun to watch young bakers produce such talented things, and it has a definite fun factor, with judges Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertinelli making constant puns and dressing in costumes tied to that week’s challenge.
5 Supermarket Sweep (1965-1967, 1990-2003, 2020-Present)
Fremantle
Supermarket Sweep is a competition set in a grocery store, where contestants answer food-based trivia and then shop in the store, trying to get the most expensive cart of items. It stood out from typical trivia game shows when it premiered, and has been popular enough to be brought back twice. Whatever version you watch, you’re sure to have fun watching contestants run through the grocery store.
4 LEGO Masters (2020-Present)
Banijay Rights
Everyone enjoys playing with LEGOs, and LEGO Masters sees the toys brought to life in stunning ways. In each episode, teams of two have to create a Lego creation to match a theme within a certain time limit. It’s incredible to watch the LEGOs go from a pile of bricks to massive and detailed creations, like dragons and even a couture hat. It’s entertaining, but also just fun to watch and see imagination at play.
3 The Big Flower Fight (2020-Present)
The Big Flower Fight follows several teams as they create larger-than-life artwork out of various flowers. It’s a unique idea for a competition, and is something viewers likely haven’t seen before. Even if you’re not interested in flowers, it’s worth a watch for its memorable contestants and their giant, jaw-dropping flower creations, like insects or sea creatures. Per Comic Book Resources, no second season has been confirmed yet, but the first season is a warm, comforting watch worth checking out.
2 Making It (2018-2021)
NBC Universal Television Distribution
Hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, Making It is a competition where craftspeople compete to create projects in a variety of media. Each episode features a shorter craft project, like designing a mailbox or making a Halloween costume, and a bigger project, like designing a room. The hosts and contestants bring lots of banter and funny moments, paired with the stunning and unique creations each contestant makes.
1 The Great British Bake Off (2010-Present)
BBC Studios
The Great British Bake-Off follows twelve amateur bakers as they compete in three weekly challenges. With ten episodes, we get to spend a lot of time with these talented and charming bakers, all while watching them produce outstanding cakes, breads, and pastries.
