Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig teamed up once again for another Agatha Christie inspired mystery following the smash hit, Knives Out. The pair seemed to accomplish the impossible by actually outdoing the original film with the fantastic sequel, Glass Onion. Benoit Blanc returns to crash the murder mystery party of the most successful friend group in the world, The Disrupters, led by the most famous billionaire in the world, Miles Bron. As Benoit is known to do, he becomes entangled in a mystery involving a wide range of eccentric rich people who all have potential motives for ruining each other’s lives. So Blanc’s perfect idea for a vacation!

While the movie did a great job of tying all of its mysteries together in the end, there were still a few lingering questions left over after Blanc solved the mystery. Here are ten mysteries hanging around Glass Onion that Benoit Blanc didn’t manage to solve.

10 Did Helen or Miles Go to Jail For the Mona Lisa Burning?

     Netflix

The big climax of Glass Onion comes when Helen Brand uses Miles Bron’s new fuel source to destroy not only his home, but the one and only Mona Lisa. This proves, once and for all, that the fuel would be a disaster for the entire world, ruining Bron and his friends. No matter how much Bron prides himself on his ability to sweep things under the rug, there is no rug big enough to hide the fact that he allowed the Mona Lisa to be burned not only by circumventing its security, but by ignoring the safety concerns around his new fuel.

While Bron’s ruin is all but guranteed, especially since his friends finally throw him under the bus where he belongs, there is still the matter of Helen’s future. While Bron certainly bears some responsibility for what happened to the most famous painting in history, Helen was still the one who technically lit the painting on fire. Of course, since the greedy always get what they deserve in the Knives Out universe, chances are that Bron’s friends end up having Helen’s back the way they betrayed Andi. They do owe her one for what they did to her sister…

9 What Was the Real Purpose of the Weekend?

Miles went to insane lengths to put together the most over-the-top murder mystery party in human history. It’s clear that there was something going on besides just getting all the friends together for a fun party. Bron may have simply wanted to make sure that his friends all backed his play when it came to the new fuel. That seems unlikely though, considering the fact that they all seemed to be begrudgingly on board with the plan. Could Miles have been meaning to take Duke out of the picture the whole time? He did come up with that pineapple plan pretty quickly. A murder mystery party with a real murder? That definitely sounds like a Miles Bron kind of plan.

8 Did Miles Really Have a COVID Cure?

Glass Onion made the fascinating choice to be set during the COVID-19 pandemic. This really set the stage for all the characters to be overjoyed to be at a party with their old friends and for Benoit Blanc to be uncharacteristically rattled. All these concerns were put aside once they reached the dock, though. There, an attendant who looked shockingly like Ethan Hawke, sprayed all of them in the mouth with a strange substance. Then he told them that all of their concerns about the virus were gone. Was this a joke that rich people have access to a COVID cure that normal people don’t have access to? Or, did the idiotic Miles Bron have a pseudoscientific cure for the virus that didn’t actually work, but he was convinced it did. Either option seems pretty plausible.

7 Why Did the Glass Onion Close?

The film’s name comes from the name of the bar The Disrupters used to hang out in before they all became successful. It was clearly an important place for all of them. So, what made it close down in the first place? One would think that Miles would simply buy the bar for himself. He bought an entire island and built a multi-million dollar home in its honor. It would’ve been much cheaper for Miles, or any of the others, to simply buy the bar.

It seems possible that Miles may have actually made sure that the bar closed down for good. Andi was the one who actually introduced them all and maybe Miles wanted to disrupt that memory by destroying the actual bar but controlling its memory. He does this kind of gas-lighting throughout the film, so it wouldn’t be a stretch for him at all.

6 How Did Benoit Make That Friend Group?

One of the biggest surprises came when we saw Benoit Blanc playing Among Us with a fantastic group of friends. That included Natasha Lyonne, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and the now deceased Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim. This was no chance meeting either, but actually seems to be Benoit’s version of the close friend group that the film centers on. The story of how all of these extraordinary people met, became best friends, and then played video games together would be better than Knives Out or Glass Onion. It’s simply a shame that Lansbury and Sondheim couldn’t star in it.

5 Why Didn’t Duke Have an Epi-Pen?

Dave Bautista’s Duke was one of the biggest personalities in a film that was 90% big personalities. He had a lot of distinct characteristics, like the fact that he never went anywhere in the world without his pistol on him for his own protection. Unfortunately, that pistol isn’t much protection against his true biggest weakness. That would be his horrible pineapple allergy that ended up costing him his life when Miles poisoned his drink with some pineapple juice. This could’ve been easily prevented if he had carried an epi-pen instead of a pistol. For someone who cares so much about his personal protection and makes sure that pineapples aren’t in anything he eats or drinks, why wouldn’t he have an epi-pen on him at all times?

Benoit Blanc would probably tell us to gaze into the center of his glass onion and come to the obvious conclusion. Duke is an idiot.

4 Is It In the Same Universe as Poker Face?

     Peacock

Rian Johnson may have made a name for himself as a film director for projects like The Last Jedi, Looper or his Knives Out franchise, he’s also well known for his skills in the television world. Most notably, he directed several of the best episodes of one of the best tv shows ever made, Breaking Bad. So it should be no surprise that he ended up entering the television world once again with his newest mystery project, Poker Face. Everyone loves a good shared universe nowadays, so naturally the question has to be asked, is Poker Face in the same universe as Benoit Blanc?

There is one piece of evidence that could point towards Poker Face being the next continuation of the Knives Out franchise. That would be Natasha Lyonne’s brief appearance in Glass Onion. Now most people assumed vthat Lyonne was simply playing herself like the rest of Blanc’s celebrity friends. It’s also possible that one of Benoit’s best friends is actually Lyonne’s character Charlie Cale from Poker Face. Does that mean a crossover could happen?

3 Who Was Derol?

Rian Johnson loves to reuse actors in his projects. Take Noah Segan, for instance. He has appeared in Looper, The Last Jedi, Knives Out, Glass Onion, The Brothers Bloom, and even an episode of Breaking Bad that Johnson worked on. For Glass Onion, he played the story’s most mysterious character, Derol. Now, on the surface, Derol was simply a person down on his luck who was living on the island. The real question is, who was he really? Was he the brains behind Miles’ genius? Was he the secret designer of the wonder fuel? Was he related to Miles all along?

Honestly, he probably was just a simple person who was down on his luck and living on the island. He was basically a reflection of who Miles really was on the inside. A simple idiot who only lived off of the livelihoods of others.

2 What Were the Cases of the Tennis Player and Ballet Dancer?

Benoit Blanc is definitely the main attraction for this franchise. Daniel Craig did the impossible and managed to find a character to play that is even more iconic than his take on James Bond for Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die. It seems likely that Rian Johnson and Craig will make these Knives Out films for the rest of their lives. While the future seems to be pretty bright for Benoit Blanc, we still don’t know very much about his past. He is a certified celebrity in his universe, making it clear that he’s worked on a number of high profile cases that have earned him international recognition. We know that a few of these cases are ones involving a tennis player and a ballet dancer.

Rian Johnson loves to try new things, so what about novel writing? A Benoit Blanc series of novels that show the earlier days of his career would no doubt be a runaway success. That or he could even start a podcast with Craig himself returning to his role as Blanc. It could be framed as a true-crime podcast set in the Knives Out universe. No matter what way he would try to flesh his universe out, audiences would be down for more.

1 Where Did Benoit Meet Philip?

While Glass Onion had a ton of extraordinary cameos, there was one much more interesting than any of the others. That would be Hugh Grant who was playing Benoit Blanc’s husband Philip. Now we all have to wonder what love story happened before the events of the films that led these charming British actors to each other. Rian Johnson really shouldn’t have cast Hugh Grant if he didn’t want his audience to expect a romantic comedy showing how they met and married. If it also showed the ballet dancer mystery and his famous friend group, that would just be icing on the cake.
