Canadian-born Corey Haim was a promising actor from the young age of 11. Haim’s mother put him in acting classes to help him overcome his shyness. His career spanned 29 years, however, many of his roles in the 90s and 00s were straight-to-video releases. Haim hit his stride in the mid- to late-80s with starring roles in films like Lucas, License to Drive, and The Lost Boys. Haim publicly struggled with drug abuse for most of his career. He was, however, trying to make a Hollywood comeback; in 2008, Haim took out a full-page ad in Variety Magazine that read: “This is not a Stunt. I am back. I am ready to work. I am ready to make amends.” Before his death, the public did get a glimpse of a potential Hollywood comeback. Corey had a cameo in the smash hit Crank: High Voltage in 2009 and starred in The Hostage Game in 2010 and Decisions in 2011. Corey said of his comeback:

13 Secret Admirer

Secret Admirer tells the tale of Toni (Lori Loughlin, pre-college admissions scandal) who writes a love letter to Michael (Thomas C Howell) who assumes it was from Deborah (Kelly Preston). Once Michael misplaces the letter, it starts creating chaos in the community, as everyone who reads it, makes their assumptions. Haim plays Jeff Ryan, Michael’s younger brother, who gets a good kick out of the letter and all of the commotion it creates.

12 Fast Getaway

In Fast Getaway, Haim plays Nelson, the criminal mastermind behind a gang of bank robbers. The gang eventually has a falling out, but Nelson and his father continue successfully robbing banks. Until Nelson is kidnapped by one of their accomplices Lilly (Cynthia Rothrock). Nelson’s father Sam (Leo Rossi) tries to anticipate Lilly’s next move to rescue Nelson.

11 Prayer of the Rollerboys

Prayer of the Rollerboys is a science fiction movie set in a dystopian society in Los Angeles. A white-supremacist gang of drug-pushing rollerbladers headed by drug pin Gary Lee (Christopher Collet) is fighting to gain control of the city. Griffin (Haim) is recruited by a detective (Patricia Arquette) to infiltrate the gang and bring their reign of terror to an end. The movie has since reached cult-classic status.

10 Crank: High Voltage

In Crank: High Voltage, we see Haim in a cameo role that was huge for his career. It was his first theatrical release in over 10 years, for Haim it marked the beginning of his Hollywood comeback. In the film, Haim plays Randy a hillbilly type who gets his ass kicked by Amy Smart’s Eve.

9 Blown Away

Released in 1993, Blown Away is a direct-to-video erotic thriller. It co-stars Haim’s former real-life flame Nicole Eggert and best friend Corey Feldman. Haim stars as Rich Gardner who becomes enamoured with 17-year-old Megan, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Megan begins to exploit her sexuality to manipulate Rich for personal gain.

8 Firstborn

Firstborn tells the tale of Jake Livingston (Christopher Collet) a 16-year-old boy who must protect his younger brother Brian (Haim) and his mother Wendy (Teri Garr) from Sam. Sam is Wendy’s menacing new boyfriend who struggles with substance abuse. Initially, Wendy and Jake are at odds, over Jake’s disapproval of Sam, but Wendy eventually realizes Jake has her and Brian’s best interest at heart.

7 Dream a Little Dream

While doing a meditation experiment with his wife in his backyard, Professor Coleman Ettinger (Jason Robards) is interrupted by unruly teens Bobby Keller (Corey Feldman) and Lainie Diamond (Meredith Salenger), and the teens unwittingly switch bodies with the elderly couple. Dream a Little Dream follows Coleman’s efforts to switch them back. Haim plays Bobby’s best friend “Dinger”.

6 Watchers

Based on a Dean Koontz novel of the same name Watchers tells the tale of a dog who escapes from a classified research lab. Travis Cornell (Haim) befriends the dog. Little does Travis know the dog is a super-intelligent being and is highly sought after by both the NSA and another genetically modified beast sent to kill it.

5 License to Drive

License to Drive stars the two Corey’s (Feldman & Haim) with Heather Graham in her first feature film. The film tells the story of Les who lands a date with his dream girl Mercedes (Graham). Despite not having his driver’s license, he “borrows” his grandpa’s Cadillac to impress his date. Various high jinx ensues as the car suffers punishment after punishment.

4 Silver Bullet

Stephen King’s Silver Bullet stars Corey Haim as Marty a young paraplegic boy who becomes fascinated by a string of murders in his peaceful town. While the townsfolk believe a maniacal killer is on the loose, Marty believes a werewolf is responsible for the killings. He and his sister Jane (Megan Fellows) begin to hunt the supernatural creature.

3 Murphy’s Romance

Murphy’s Romance tells the tale of a divorced single mother and her son Jake (Haim) who move to a quiet town to start their lives over. Emma (Sally Field) begins a pseudo romance with a local pharmacist Murphy (James Garner). When Emma’s ex Bobby Jack (Brian Kerwin) re-enters their life, Jake becomes conflicted. He has become close to Murphy but wants to remain loyal to his father.

2 Lucas

Lucas showcases Haim in his first lead role as Lucas Blye an awkward 14-year-old who is bullied at school. Maggie (Kerri Green) befriends Lucas, and he begins to develop feelings for her. Maggie has her eye on someone else, and Lucas resorts to joining the football team to impress her. Lucas is injured in the game and Maggie realizes she does not know Lucas as well as she thought. Haim’s performance was praised by Roger Ebert.

1 The Lost Boys

Directed by Joel Schumacher The Lost Boys is a story about two brothers Sam (Haim) and Michael (Jason Patric) who move to a small town with their mother (Dianne Wiest). Shortly after Michael is unwittingly initiated into a gang of vampires headed by David (Keifer Sutherland). Sam (a comic book nerd) deduces that Michael is only half-vampire and can still be saved if they can find the head vampire and kill him. The pair then stage a plan to restore Michael’s humanity. The movie was the first of many that the two Corey’s starred in together. The Lost Boys spawned several direct-to-video sequels, and a remake is also on the horizon.
