300 destroyed the box office competition this weekend with an astounding $70 million dollars, according to Box Office Mojo; Gerard Butler plays the king and leader of the Spartan army.
The buddy comedy, Wild Hogs dropped to second place, but still finished with $28 million; it’s made $77.4 million in its two weeks. John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy star.
The fantasy children’s film, Bridge to Terabithia came in third bringing in $6.8 million, for a four week total of $67 million.
The Marvel Comics adaptation, Ghost Rider passed the $100 million mark in fourth place with $6.8 million; that puts it at $104.1 million over four weeks.
Zodiac took fifth place with $6.7 million for a two week total of $23.7 million. Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. star in the David Fincher hunt for the real life serial killer.

Jim Carrey’s The Number 23 stepped into sixth place; the thriller took in $4.3 million and a three week total of $30.4 million.
Norbit is laughing up audiences in seventh place with $4.3 million, bringing the Eddie Murphy comedy to $88.3 for five weeks.
Music and Lyrics came in eighth place making $3.8 million and $43.8 million over four weeks; the romantic comedy stars Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant.
Breach took the nine spot taking in $2.6 million; the real life thriller has made $29.1 over four weeks.
Amazing Grace rounds out the top ten with $2.5 million; the period piece has made $11.4 million over three weeks. Ioan Gruffudd stars.
