Everyone has heard that adage that nearly half of all marriages end in divorce, and it may be truer than you think. According to Wilkinson & Finkbeiner LLP, almost 50% of all marriages will end with separation or divorce. In addition, about 45% of all first marriages end in divorce. It’s these statistics that make one realize how much hard work goes into a successful marriage. Our favorite celebrity couples who have stood the test of time have shown us that a happy and successful union takes hard work, compromise, communication, therapy, support, and partnership.
These celebrity couples have proven that even despite the glitz and glamour and dare we say ‘distractions’ of Hollywood a happy marriage — or non-married union — is attainable. Not only are these powerful couples partners in marriage, many of them are business partners as well. We have compiled a list of our favorite powerhouse partnerships that we can’t get enough of and all the times they worked together on a movie, whether behind or in front of the camera.

7 Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey

Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey (née Levin) are well known for their production company Team Downey, which has produced several popular movies and TV series since its inception, including the 2014 film The Judge, the Netflix original Sweet Tooth, and HBO’s Perry Mason. Even before their shared business venture, they worked together frequently, with Downey Jr. as the star and Levin as producer, in films such as Gothika, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Due Date, Sherlock Holmes, and Dolittle. Next up for Team Downey is the HBO series Sphere and the highly anticipated Sherlock Holmes 3.

6 Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell have starred in several projects together throughout their 14-year union. Most notably: the romantic comedy When In Rome wherein Bell’s character Beth fishes coins out of a famous Roman fountain and prompts the true owners of the coins to fall madly in love with her. The pair also starred together in two movies directed by Shepard. The first is the 2012 action comedy Hit and Run starring Bradley Cooper, and the second is Chips inspired by the 1970s cop drama. According to USA Today, Shepard has said he almost couldn’t cast Bell in the role because she was “too damn likable” to play the character. Thankfully, Bell eventually did land the part. “I’m glad he likes me,” said Bell. “But I threw down a not-so-thinly-veiled threat: ‘I can be very unlikable. Welcome to the next week of your life.’” In addition to working together in the movies, Bell and Shepard also manage their own baby products line Hello Bello, which produces eco-friendly and organic baby products, such as diapers, shampoos, sunscreen, etc.
5 Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick

Veteran actors Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon have been happily married for over 34 years, and share two children together. They have starred in many projects together including Lemon Sky (1987), during which Bacon realized he was in love with Sedgwick and pursued her, Pyrates (1991), Murder in the First (1995), and Cavedweller (2004). Sedgwick also directed Bacon in the 2017 film Story of a Girl, which marked her directorial debut. “For years I encouraged Kyra to direct because I really thought she’d be great at it and would enjoy it,” Bacon told Glamour. “But directing is a big step to take because you go, ‘Oh, can I really stand there and tell all these people what to do?’ So I just kept saying to her, ‘I know you can do this.’
4 Tom Holland and Zendaya

Hollywood’s current “it-couple,” Tom Holland and Zendaya are arguably also independently the hottest celebrities of their generation. Holland took the world by storm as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man in the Sony/MCU Spider-Man & Avengers franchises, while Zendaya hit big with HBO’s controversial teen drama Euphoria, which follows a group of teenagers navigating through life’s challenges, such as self-worth, addiction, sexuality, love, and trauma. The famed couple has worked together in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and their most successful Spider-Man: No Way Home. What’s next for the pair? While it remains to be seen if the couple will star together in another film, the duo has many projects on the horizon. Ever the chameleon, Holland will appear in a Fred Astaire biopic and as the famed Billy Milligan in the Apple TV Series The Crowded Room. Zendaya will reprise her role as Rue Bennett in the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria, and will also return for the 2023 Dune sequel, which promises a more fleshed-out role.
3 Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn

Despite never tying the knot Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn remain one of Hollywood’s most famed celebrity couples and have been together for 39 years. The two famous actors, who each have a tremendous career in their own right, have starred together in four major projects over the decades. The first film was Disney’s 1966 family musical The One and Only, Genuine, Original, Family Band during Russell’s reign as a Disney Prince. It wasn’t until 1983, however, on the set of Jonathan Demme’s war period romance Swing Shift that the couple began dating. They were again reunited in their most famed collaboration Overboard in 1987, which stars Hawn as a spoiled socialite who stiffs a laborer for his pay, and he later gets his revenge when she falls overboard from her yacht and gets amnesia. More recently the duo starred as another famed celebrity couple Mr. and Mrs. Clause in the Netflix film The Christmas Chronicles 2.
2 Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds met on the set of the summer blockbuster Green Lantern in which Reynolds played Hal Jordan a.k.a. Green Lantern and Lively played Carol Ferris, Jordan’s high school sweetheart. The film follows Reynolds’ Jordan the newest and only human member of the Green Lantern Corps., who promises to defend intergalactic order. The pair were married in 2012 and have not starred in a film since the Green Lantern, but are very active on social media, often entertaining their fans by playing hilarious gags on one another. Lively and Reynolds also work together on the Group Effort Initiative, which has recently partnered with Netflix. GEI helps provide opportunities in the entertainment industry for underrepresented members of the community.
1 Emily Blunt and John Krasinski

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski have been a couple for 13 years and have only starred in one film together. The film A Quiet Place was written and directed by Krasinski himself and is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the few remaining human beings must live in utter silence to remain safe from extraterrestrial predators with super-sensitive hearing. Blunt would go on to win a Screen Actors Guild award for her work on the film. In her acceptance speech, she stated “I am going to share this completely with my husband, John Krasinski, because the entire experience of doing this with you has completely pierced my heart directly. You are a stunning filmmaker. I am so lucky to be with you and to have done this film with you.”
