What makes a good TV show; an engaging plot, world-building, or multidimensional characters? All three are pretty important, but it’s the latter that really captures the audience’s attention. Without well-written characters, many TV shows fall flat. On various occasions, fans of various TV shows and movies have revealed that even when the story starts lacking, they stick around solely because of their favorite characters. Here are some characters that took some of our favorite TV shows to an even higher level.

7 Madisynn - She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

     Disney Platform Distribution

Madisynn is eccentric. From the spelling of her name to her grating personality. She manages to quickly grab the attention of viewers by being her the-world-revolves-around-me person, while also being a devoted friend that knows how to hype and cheer up her friends. One such unlikely friend is Wong. Due to her tipsy personality, whether at home or in the courtroom, she became a living meme. She makes the audience laugh and cringe at the same time, and there’s no other character like her. An even more interesting take on Madisynn, is that her character doesn’t exist in the comics; she was solely created from scratch for the TV show.

6 Vecna - Stranger Things

     Netflix

The horrifying world of the Upside Down brings a handful of terrors in Stranger Things. However, until season four, there is little known of the Upside Down, and most of the fear roots in the unknown aspect of it and the characterless monster, which, as far as antagonists go, aren’t as fun or engaging. The terror is finally given a name, a face, and quite the personality in season four as the audience finally comes face to face with Vecna, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower.

Vecna is the perfect villain to raise the stakes for Eleven and the others. What makes him scarier than the other monsters from the Upside Down is the fact that he has a history with Hawkins and Eleven specifically. Despite just being introduced in the fourth season, Vecna was quick to take a liking to the character. Strangely enough, fans loved Vecna so much that it even led to Jamie Campbell Bower having a thirst Tweet react video.

5 Enid - Wednesday

If sunflowers and sunshine could be a person, that would be Enid. Wherever she goes, she tends to lift the room with joy. Sometimes she can talk a lot to the point of annoying Wednesday; she is the type to grow on people. However, she also knows how to respect the boundaries of others. Enid is a social butterfly, but the good kind who is friendly towards everyone. She is a devoted person towards her passion and friends. Due to her cute and cheerful personality, she is a well-liked character in the series. Especially since she is the polar opposite of Wednesday, making them the perfect best friends.

4 Wednesday Addams - Wednesday

Netflix’s recent show Wednesday would not be the global sensation that it is without this titular character. Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday is perhaps the main reason why the show quickly became popular among the younger audience. Some fans argued that the narrative of the TV Show was lacking at certain points, but what truly made it an enjoyable watch was Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday. She sticks out from the other characters with her gothic appearance and fascination with death and the macabre. A fan-favorite moment from the series is the Wednesday dance, which Jenna Ortega choreographed herself. Fans took to TikTok to create their own variation of the dance.

3 Soldier Boy - The Boys

Soldier Boy is one of the main antagonists in The Boys. He’s mentioned on multiple occasions in season one and two, and finally makes an appearance in season three. Added to the initial hype built around his character is the fact that Soldier Boy is portrayed by none other than Supernatural star, Jensen Ackles. Ackles, who brings his gruff, is an all-American swearing soldier, and is almost undefeatable. He’s seen as the only one powerful enough to get rid of Homelander. However, things take a turn for the worse when it becomes apparent that perhaps Soldier Boy is worse than Homelander. Given that at the end of Season three, Soldier Boy is taken into government custody and not killed, there’s a high chance that he may return in later seasons, and fans can’t be any more thrilled.

2 Luthen - Andor

     Disney+

Fans are first introduced to Luthen as the quirky antique seller, and it’s eventually revealed that he’s revealed to be a member of the Rebel Alliance. In addition, he’s the one who recruits Cassian Andor as a Rebel operative. The complexities of Luthen’s character are slowly revealed through the details in the story and Stellan Skarsgård’s performance. Luthen is the reason Andor or Rogue One exists. His role as a double agent traps him and prevents him from actively participating, allowing for more complexity and sympathy. Skarsgård’s monologue in the finale of Andor is one of the most popular fan-favorite moments.

1 Daemon - House of the Dragon

     HBO

Any discussion surrounding HBO’s House of the Dragon is incomplete without the mention of Daemon Targaryen. Portrayed by Matt Smith, Daemon is the second son and a ruthless leader during wartime. Much like many other characters within the Game of Thrones universe, Daemon also proves to the audience that he’s no shining hero and has an ugly side to him. Perhaps, it’s the combination of greatness and darkness that attracts Daemon to his own separate fanbase. Matt Smith delivers a spectacular performance to show the complexity of Daemon’s character. It’s definitely part of the reason why many fans eagerly await the next season.
