Val director Ting Poo is working on a documentary about singer Christina Aguilera, Deadline reports. The film, which has been in production for the last 18 months, will provide an in-depth look into the superstar’s life, beginning from her start with Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club in 1993. Never-before-seen footage will provide an intimate look at Aguilera’s professional endeavors and personal life events.
This project is the second collaboration between Time Studios and Roc Nation, as they announced a Megan Thee Stallion documentary earlier this year. Time Studios’ Ian Orefice, Alexa Conway and Loren Hammonds and Roc Nation’s Lori York, Sarah Francus and Desiree Perez, and Poo all serve as executive producers on the film.

“We are beyond excited to extend our creative partnership with Roc Nation through this film,” said Hammonds, Time Studios’ Co-Head of Documentary. “Christina has been such an enduring talent and inimitable entertainer throughout the years. Hers is truly one of the great voices of our time, and this is the perfect moment for her story to be told. We are incredibly honored that she has chosen to work with TIME Studios and Roc Nation to finally share her truth with the world.”
Before Val, Poo worked as an editor on numerous films, including Bella Vita and The Rocket Project. The filmmaker had nothing but praise for her next film’s subject:
“Christina Aguilera is one of the most iconic artists of our time, whose music has inspired millions of people around the world. I am truly honored to tell the story of the person behind the music because I know it will equally inspire.”
Christina Aguilera’s Renowned Career
Aguilera rose to international success following the release of her self-titled album in 1999. The record included the hit singles Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants, Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You), and I Turn To You. The following year, when she was just 19, she received the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Throughout her decades-long career, Aguilera has received much recognition, including six Grammy Awards and one Latin Grammy Award. Aguilera, her most recent Spanish-language album, is nominated for seven Latin Grammy Awards. She has also appeared in three films: Burlesque, The Emoji Movie and Zoe.
She is respected for her philanthropic efforts, has aligned with organizations that aided victims of domestic violence and global disasters, and has long supported LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality, among other efforts.
Documentaries centered around musicians are definitely having a moment. Just this year, multiple have been released, including Netflix’s Jeen-Yuhs (about Kanye West), Halftime (about Jennifer Lopez), Moonage Daydream (about David Bowie), and Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me.
