Veteran actor Morgan Freeman joins rising star Florence Pugh in a heartwarming (and heart-breaking) drama about grief, regret, and forgiveness. The trailer for A Good Person dropped today, teasing some emotionally charged performances from Freeman and Pugh as they tackle some heavy themes.
The trailer reveals that Florence Pugh’s character, Allison, is happily engaged to her partner, Nathan. However, while driving with her fiancé and his sister, they get involved in a car crash, and her soon-to-be sister-in-law is killed. As a result, the engagement is broken off, although it’s unsure whether Nathan broke the engagement out of blame or Allison broke it out of shame. Morgan Freeman’s character plays Nathan’s father as he struggles to forgive Allison, who is spiraling into an alcohol-fueled depression. The trailer begins with a profound monologue by Freeman in his iconic, soothing voice:

“For the model train enthusiast, we lord over a world where the neighbors are always kind, their lovers always end up together, and the trains always take you to the far-off places you always swore you’d go. In life, of course, nothing is nearly neat and tidy.”
Morgan Freeman Takes Another Complex, Layered Role
MGM
Freeman’s character is also a widow, a model train enthusiast, a Vietnam vet, and a former alcoholic. He’s juggling a lot of complicated baggage here, but it’s nothing the seasoned actor can’t handle, who is still busy with various films and series well into his eighties. This year, he starred in Paradise Highway and The Minute You Wake Up Dead and is also working on a Civil War limited series called The Gray House. In addition to A Good Person, his upcoming films include Muti and 57 Seconds.
His much younger co-star, Florence Pugh, is by no means an inexperienced actress, having starred in multiple big films since her breakout role in Midsommar in 2019. Here, her character similarly suffers from grief and regret after an incident she feels she could have prevented, although Midsommar is also a horror film that features some gut-wrenching imagery. Pugh’s upcoming movies include Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two, both of which have finished filming.
The film will also feature a touch of humor, with Morgan Freeman chasing away a “f**kboy” out of his granddaughters’ bedroom and Florence Pugh mistakenly doing a “Makeover Monday” on a Friday.
MGM’s description of the video reads:
