Hazbin Hotel’s Twitter account recently posted the first glimpse of Lucifer Morningstar, King of Hell. He is the father of the show’s leading character, Charlie. Lucifer appears in the tweet wearing a white tuxedo and sitting on a red-and-black throne decorated with feathers and scary-looking eyes. Additionally, he is surrounded by a pile of rubber ducks and brightly colored lights. A24 plans to turn the viral YouTube series into a full-fledged television show.
While Lucifer is not a new character to the Hazbin Hotel universe, fans had never seen him fully unveiled until now. Originally, Lucifer appeared only in the Happy Hotel’s portrait in VivziePop’s YouTube pilot of Hazbin Hotel and as a dark shadow looming over Charlie’s dreams. However, until now, Lucifer has never been physically seen in an officially released work.

The animated adult musical series Hazbin Hotel made its debut on YouTube in 2019 as a pilot by Vivienne Medrano, popularly known as VivziePop. As an animator, illustrator, comic creator, and voice actress, Medrano comes from a Salvadoran American background. She is also known for creating the adult animated series Helluva Boss which also references Lucifer. Over 81 million people have viewed the pilot episode so far. In 2020, production company A24 acquired the production, intending to make it into a long-form TV series.
This show follows the journey of Charlie, who happens to be the princess of Hell. Using the humorous name Happy Hotel, she attempts to deal with Hell’s overpopulation issue by offering redemption to sinners.
Hazbin Hotel doesn’t necessarily have Lucifer as its primary antagonist, despite his status as the King of Hell. The character has received little details on his role in the show. Still, he is described as “very silly and goofy” by Medrano and Faustisse, the former Hazbin Hotel visual developer.
It’s clear that Lucifer isn’t the kindest father, but he still cares about Charlie and doesn’t want her hotel plan to fail. In contrast, Charlie’s sinister and dark image of her father could indicate the exact opposite. Also, Lucifer might be considered an antihero in the story, even though he is not necessarily against Charlie, his actions could impede her progress.
No official date is set for Hazbin Hotel’s debut, but the Twitter page indicates it will be launched in less than a year, around Summer 2023. Only time will tell whether A24 has changed Hazbin Hotel from its original, highly successful concept, but Medrano has assured fans that the show should have minimal character redesigns.
