Jesse Pinkman had a fitting end to his story with 2019’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, but if Vince Gilligan ever calls Aaron Paul back for an all-new series, you can count him in. Paul will return for a special appearance as Jesse alongside Bryan Cranston’s Walter White in the upcoming sixth and final season of Better Call Saul. With no plans for any other shows (or films) set in the Breaking Bad universe in the works, it may be the final time we’ll see Paul in the role.
In any case, there’s no telling what the future may bring. Speaking about Breaking Bad in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul was asked about a hypothetical Breaking Bad sequel series with an older Holly White, Walter’s daughter, tracking down Jesse Pinkman in Alaska. Asked if he’d be up to return or if he would first need to see the script, Paul laughed at the concept before offering this clear answer.

Vince Gilligan created Breaking Bad and co-created the spinoff Better Call Saul with Peter Gould. Gilligan also wrote and directed El Camino, which revealed how Jesse wrote a letter to be passed along to Brock Castillo, the son of his girlfriend who’d been killed in Breaking Bad’s final season. The movie did not divulge the contents of the letter, but Paul spoke about how the film was scripted to include what was said with a narration, though this didn’t make the final cut.

For his part, Aaron Paul is just happy that fans know to expect the returns of Walt and Jesse in Better Call Saul. He didn’t want to have to be coy as he was expecting for their appearance to be a surprise. The actor recently opened up about his return in a separate interview with MovieWeb.
The sixth and final season of Better Call Saul will premiere on April 18 on AMC.
