ABC has renewed Quinta Brunson’s hit comedy Abbott Elementary for a third season as the network continues to make its way through the 2023 Winter Press Tour. As the series nears the halfway mark of Season 2, viewers have already been treated to an Emmy Award-winning first season and, more recently, three Golden Globe wins at this year’s show. When Abbott Elementary premiered in 2021, it was immediately praised for its fresh, creative take on the traditional sitcom format. The series follows a diverse group of teachers who must navigate the challenges of a public school system and strive to meet their students’ needs. With each episode, viewers were given a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of the teachers and their students while also being treated with a comedic touch.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Abbott Elementary perfectly blends the real world of the public school system with feel-good comedy. It’s a combination that viewers love and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. The show stars Brunson in the lead role of Janine Teagues, a dedicated school teacher who cares deeply for her students and works hard to give them the best education possible. Throughout the show, we’ve seen Janine’s resilience and strength in the face of the many challenges she’s faced. It’s no wonder, then, that the show earned three Emmys this past year, including one for Brunson’s Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

When season 2 first premiered, expectations for the show were already high, as it was a continuation of the beloved first season. But it has managed to exceed even those lofty expectations and has become one of the most-watched shows on ABC this season. In addition, the show has been a huge success in terms of ratings. After 35 days of viewing across all platforms, the show has a 3.58 rating in the key demographic of Adults 18-49, marking a 31% increase over last year.

The show has attracted an impressive ensemble of talented actors, but one of its stars, Tyler James Williams, has just earned his first Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV series. In addition, she has brought together a group of incredibly talented actors to form the show’s cast. Among them is Janelle James as Principal Ava Coleman, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard, and William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson, the school’s janitor.
