Previously, she was attached to a new science-fiction movie by director Bruno Dumont. While she initially thought the project looked like a lot of fun, Haenel ended up leaving due to her disagreement with the film’s subject and content. According to Haenel, behind the film’s funny facade, there was a dark, sexist, and racist world that was being defended.

Is this the end for Adèle Haenel?

Haenel hasn’t given up acting completely, however. She is now focused on working in the theatre, wanting to participate in another world. According to Haenel, if she stayed today in this film industry, it would be a feminist guarantee to this masculine and patriarchal industry. However, she hasn’t ruled out making independent films with collaborators like fellow activists Céline Sciamma and Gisèle Vienne.

Before this, Haenel has also protested injustice in the film industry by walking out of the César Film Awards in 2020 due to Roman Polanski’s Best Director win for An Officer and a Spy. She also recently took part in a political panel regarding activism and battling the rise of the fall right, which you can watch here.
