The stars of Airheads still have great love for one another in 2022. Back in 1994, Adam Sandler and Brendan Fraser starred in the cult classic comedy alongside Steve Buscemi as a trio of hard rockers who hijack a radio station in order to get their music heard. Directed by Michael Lehmann and written by Rich Wilkes, the film also featured notable names like Chris Farley, Ernie Hudson, Michael McKean, and Judd Nelson. It was a box office bomb but would go on to gain a cult following with many fans looking back fondly upon Airheads in retrospect.
Almost three decades later, Sandler and Fraser are both generating Oscar buzz with their respective performances in Hustle and The Whale. Per Entertainment Weekly, Sandler addressed this correlation and noted how happy he is to see his longtime friend garnering so much critical acclaim. At the same time, the Hustle star isn’t surprised by Fraser getting this attention, as Sandler says he’s always known how great his former co-star is. As Sandler puts it:

Going back to Airheads, Sandler notes how Fraser took that role very seriously, as he’s done with every role he’s taken on since including his most recent in The Whale. Getting Fraser into the Oscar conversation has been a long time coming, says Sandler.
