The legendary Al Pacino has landed his next big role. Per Deadline, Pacino will team up with Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) and Diana Silvers (Space Force) to star in the upcoming indie drama movie Billy Knight. The film, which marks the feature directorial debut for writer-director Alec Griffen Roth, will start filming this week. Roth has also addressed the film and its cast in a statement.

“Billy Knight is a love letter to cinema, a fantasy steeped in the history of this great art form,” Roth explained. “It’s also the tale of two struggling artists, an introspective struggle of a young man trying to find his voice, and discovering what’s important in life. Having the incomparable Al Pacino and the incredible talents Charlie Heaton and Diana Silvers in the film is a dream come true.”

Autumn Bailey-Ford and Cameron Burnett will produce for Prominent Productions alongside Sevier Crespo and Amanda Kiely. Executive producers include Sarah Sarandos, Josh Clayton, Kirk Martin, and Peter Bortel of Our World Films.

The plot follows grad school students Alex (Heaton) and Emily (Silvers) as they traverse their aspiring careers as filmmakers. Alex is also grappling with the grief of losing his father, a failed screenwriter. The only thing his dad left him was a box of unfinished scripts and a handkerchief with the name “Billy Knight” embroidered on it. Alex embarks on a magical Hollywood adventure to track down the Billy Knight all while navigating the line between fiction and reality.

Al Pacino and Johnny Depp Are Partnering Up on Another Project

Along with House of Gucci, Al Pacino’s other recent acting roles include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Irishman, and American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally. It was also recently announced that Pacino will be partnering up with Johnny Depp on another upcoming project. The two will produce a biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani alongside Barry Navidi. Production on this film is set to begin in early 2023.

“The saga of Mr. Modigliani’s life is one that I’m incredibly honored, and truly humbled, to bring to the screen,” Depp said of the project. “It was a life of great hardship, but eventual triumph — a universally human story all viewers can identify with.”

Navidi added, “This project has been very close to Al’s heart. Al introduced me to the play Modigliani many years ago and I instantly fell in love with it. This is a slice of Modi’s life and not a bio. It’s been a dream of mine to work with Johnny again — he’s a true artist with an amazing vision to bring this great story to the screen.”
