Absolute Dominion, a martial arts drama starring Alex Winter and Patton Oswalt, is in the works at Netflix. Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone) is on board to write and direct the film. She’ll also serve as a producer. Absolute Dominion will be a joint venture between Netflix and Blumhouse Television.

The plot synopsis for Absolute Dominion (via Deadline) reads: “It’s 2085 A.D., and the world has been destroyed by religious warfare. Desperate to save humanity, global governing forces host a gripping, no-holds-barred, martial arts tournament. Last fighter standing wins Absolute Dominion for one faith.”

Director Lexi Alexander is best known for her Oscar-nominated short film Johnny Flynton and 2008’s Punisher: War Zone. She is also a former stunt woman and a World Kickboxing Champion. Absolute Dominion marks Alexander’s first feature film in over a decade. She last directed the 2010 drama Lifted and has been working in television since then, directing episodes of shows like Arrow, Supergirl, Limitless, and How to Get Away with Murder.

Alongside Alex Winter and Patton Oswalt, Absolute Dominion also features Alok Vaid-Menon (Random Acts of Flyness), Andy Allo (Chicago Fire, Upload), Désiré Mia, Jennifer Jajeh (Transparent), Juliana Joel (American Gigolo), Julie Ann Emery (Better Call Saul), June Carryl (Dead Women Walking), Junes Zahdi (Dog), Laith Ashley (Pose, Strut), Mario D’Leon (Power), Nora Armani (The Blacklist: Redemption), Oluniké Adeliyi (The Expanse), Reagan Gomez (The Parent ‘Hood) and Shawn Mousavi (NCIS: New Orleans).

Absolute Dominion features a massive star cast and, barring a few, comprises mostly newcomers. The film has also hired legendary stunt coordinator Phillip Tan to handle the action and fights. There is currently no word on Absolute Dominion’s release date, but production is underway on the film. With a martial artist at the helm and featuring a unique star cast, along with the likes of Patton Oswalt and Alex Winter, Absolute Dominion looks to be an absolute blast.

Oswalt was recently seen in Marvel’s Eternals as Pip the Troll. He’ll next appear in another comic book adaption, Netflix’s The Sandman. Emery is best known for her role as Betsy Kettleman in Better Call Saul, a role she recently reprised in season 6. She also played Sarah Featherstone in AMC’s Preacher. As for Alex Winter, the Lost Boys star has been trying his hand at documentaries in recent years. His next project, Mass Effect: The Story of YouTube, will be based on the origins of YouTube.

Alex Winter is Open to Return in Bill & Ted 4, But Under The Right Conditions

Alex Winter reprised his role as Bill in 2020’s Bill and Ted Face the Music alongside Keanu Reeves. While the film was a hit, it’s still unknown if we’ll ever get a fourth film in the franchise. As per Winter, he’ll be happy to play Bill again as long as the story is satisfying. Here’s what he told Collider in 2020:

“We don’t particularly feel there needs to be another one, but we would enjoy making another one. That’s really the honest answer. There’s nothing more to it. We are not currently planning another one. Certainly, no one has come to us and asked us to do another one. I don’t know where those chips are gonna fall. I can tell you that, if there was interest in making another one, and Keanu and I had the ability to come in and do something that would be as satisfying as what we just did, sure. We would both be interested in doing that.”
