AMC’s The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series has taken a big step forward by casting Alexandra Daddario as its lead star. Variety reports the live-action series, based on the Anne Rice novels of the same name, is written and executive produced by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, with Spalding serving as showrunner. The first officially-announced cast member, Daddario will reportedly star as Rowan, a “brilliant doctor who grapples with her fate as the heir to a family of powerful witches.”

Daddario was recently seen on the hit HBO series The White Lotus, which will bring back Jennifer Coolidge for its upcoming second season. She has also had recurring roles like White Collar, Parenthood, and American Horror Story: Hotel, along with a main role in the series Why Women Kills. Daddario has also been seen in a variety of movies, including the Percy Jackson films, Texas Chainsaw 3D, San Andreas, Rampage, and Lost Transmissions.

In December, AMC ordered The Lives of the Mayfair Witches to series with plans to develop eight episodes for its freshman season. This follows a 2020 deal with AMC acquiring the rights to develop new content based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, which includes 18 total books. Rice had originally signed on to executive produce these shows with son Christopher, though she passed away in December. Mark Johnson will oversee the development of these adaptations as part of the network’s plan to build a new streaming and television universe.

Also in the works is a series based on Interview with the Vampire. The cast of that series includes Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid as the vampires Louis and Lestat and is also comprised of an 8-episode first season. Rolin Jones is writing the series.

The Lives of the Mayfair Witches does not have a release date but will arrive on AMC and AMC+ later in 2022.
