Vertical Entertainment released the trailer for its upcoming horror feature, Alone at Night, starring Ashley Benson on Tuesday. Scenes from the trailer felt eerily reminiscent of classic 80s B-horror movies. However, the film retains modernity through its seamless incorporation of social media, influencers, and an OnlyFans-esque platform in the storyline. The film premieres on January 20th, 2023 and will be available in theaters and on demand.
The steamy slasher follows Vicky (Benson), a young woman looking for an escape after going through a harrowing breakup. After retreating to a friend’s remote cabin in the woods to clear her head, she continues modeling sexy lingerie for her devoted followers on 18 & Over, an adults-only, live-streaming website. But when the power goes out, Vicky discovers something terrifying awaiting her in the dark — a masked killer wielding a crowbar who’s hellbent on bringing her night to a grisly end.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Alone at Night is led by Benson (Pretty Little Liars) and features an ensemble cast including Pamela Anderson (Baywatch), Luis Guzmán (Traffic), Paris Hilton, musician G-Eazy, and rapper A$AP Nast. Additional cast members include Sky Ferreira (Baby Driver), John Robinson, and Cassius Corrigan. The film is accompanied by an original score composed by G-Eazy, a first for the Billboard-charting artist.
Jimmy Giannopoulos serves as director and co-writer alongside previous collaborator, Diomedes Raul Bermudez. The duo both worked together to pen the screenplay for Giannopoulos’ feature directorial debut, The Birthday Cake. In October, Giannopoulos spoke on the film’s genesis and inspiration to Deadline, stating:
“With Alone at Night, I wanted to make the kind of movie I would have snuck into as a teen. Slasher, stoner, a sexy thriller with killer music. Playing on the nostalgia of my favorite B-horror, we truly made a terrifyingly fun film. Though the themes of isolation and obsession are as old as time, culture always breeds new ways for them to manifest. You can isolate, but you can’t hide.”
Alone at Night Features Familiar Faces from Jimmy Giannopoulos’ Directorial Debut
Jimmy Giannopoulos is still a burgeoning director with Alone at Night marking his second feature to date. However, Giannopoulos has been in the entertainment industry for decades. Before stepping into the director’s chair, he was most known as a drummer and music producer, eventually forming the American R&B and electropop duo LOLAWOLF with Zoë Kravitz in 2013. Additionally, he also worked on musical projects with Kid Cudi, A$AP Rocky, and Miley Cyrus.
He made his feature directorial debut with the crime thriller, The Birthday Cake, which featured an unusually impressive cast for a nascent director. The ensemble cast for his 2021 debut consisted of Ewan McGregor, Val Kilmer, Penn Badgley, and the late Paul Sorvino just to name a few from the lengthy list of heavy-hitters. His next feature, Alone at Night features both Ashley Benson and Luis Guzmán, who played supporting roles in the Scorsese-inspired mob drama. Benson played mob-girlfriend Tracy, and Guzmán played a pot-smoking cab driver. Both individuals are playing larger roles in the upcoming slasher Alone at Night with Benson landing the leading role of Vicky.
