Amandla Stenberg is tired of commentary about their chest.

The actress took to Instagram and TikTok to address a DM she sent to Lena Wilson after the film critic called Stenberg’s recent Bodies Bodies Bodies “a 95-minute advertisement for cleavage.”

“I thought was hilarious. I’m proud that a piece of work I was a part of was described as such in such a renowned publication,” the actress, who uses she/they pronouns interchangeably, said in the video. Stenberg then sent a good-spirited response to Wilson through Instagram DMs, writing:

“Great review! Maybe if you had gotten your eyes off my tits, you could’ve watched the movie.”

They continued, “I thought it was hilarious. I thought because Lena is gay, and I am also gay, I thought that as gay people we would both find this comment funny.” But Wilson didn’t seem to see the humor in the situation, sharing the message to Twitter and calling Stenberg’s response “homophobic.”

In the video, Stenberg explained to their defense that one of the driving reasons behind messaging Wilson was being fed up with unsolicited comments about her appearance, especially her chest.

“It’s quite surprising, the amount of commentary I receive on my boobs is so extreme. This has happened since I was a teenager,” Stenberg, who made their big screen debut as Rue in 2012’s The Hunger Games, said. “I could literally be wearing a t-shirt and just because of the size of my boobs, there will be some sort of sexualization or commentary on my chest.”

She continued, “I wore a tank top in this movie because me and the costume designer felt it fit the character well. I do get tired of people talking about my chest. There seems to be a lot of unwarranted conversation about my chest.”

Despite Wilson’s reaction to the message, Stenberg firmly reiterated that she has nothing but well wishes for the film critic.

“Lena, I thought your review was hilarious. I thought my DM was funny. I did not mean to harass you,” Stenberg said, closing the video. “I do not wish you any harm. You are allowed to have your criticism on my work and I’m allowed to have my criticisms of your work. I wish you the best.”
