An 80s music icon has been cast in the Prime Video series The Horror of Dolores Roach. Per Variety, Cyndi Lauper has just boarded the series as the character Ruthie, a Broadway theater usher who “moonlights as a private investigator and stirs up trouble for Dolores Roach.” She joins previously announced cast members Justina Muchado, Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike, K. Todd Freeman, Marc Maron, Jean Yoon, Judy Reyes, and Jeffery Self.
Lauper is of course best known for her career in music with chart-topping hits like “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” “She Bop,” and “All Through the Night.” She has sold more than 50 million records during her 4-decade plus career with many Grammy, Emmys, Tonys, and other major awards won along the way. She has acted in various films over the years, which includes roles in Off and Running, The Opportunists, and Henry & Me. Lauper has also appeared in TV shows like The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Bones, and Magnum P.I.

The Horror of Dolores Roach was ordered to series at Prime Video back in February. A collaboration between Blumhouse TV, Spotify Studios, and GloNation Studios, the series is based on the original Gimlet podcast. The first season will consist of eight episodes with the original podcast writer-director Aaron Mark serving as co-showrunner alongside Dara Resnik. The two also executive produce with Daphne Rubin-Vega, Roxann Dawson, GloNation Studios’ Gloria Calderón Kellett, Blumhouse TV’s Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, and Jeremy Gold, and Spotify’s Dawn Ostroff, Mimi O’Donnell, and Justin McGoldrick.
