The Depp v Heard trial took an interesting turn when Kate Moss took the stand earlier this week, putting another celebrity in the middle of the world’s most-publicized trial of recent memory. This happened after Moss was earlier mentioned by name in the trial when Amber Heard claimed to have heard a “rumor” that Johnny Depp had previously thrown Moss down the stairs. Heard claims that she witnessed Depp attempting to attack her sister at the top of a staircase so she struck him in self-defense, thinking specifically about the alleged rumor.

This does not seem to be a rumor that’s well-known by the public, but in her latest testimony as the final witness in the trial, Heard says that it doesn’t matter whether it’s true or not. She claims to have heard the rumor from multiple people, leading her to believe it, whether or not Moss clarifies that the incident never actually happened.

Heard also dismissed Moss’ testimony defending Depp by suggesting she had only appeared in the trial as a way of “currying favor” with a “powerful” man like Depp, insinuating that the other witnesses called by Depp’s lawyers were doing the same. Heard claims this is exactly why she felt the need to write the 2018 op-ed that would eventually spawn this lawsuit against her.

“I know how many people will come out of the woodwork to be in support of Johnny. It’s clear by this courtroom how many people will do that. Everybody who was around in the 90s and the early aughts knew that rumor. I had heard that rumor from multiple people. Of course, that’s what flashed through my head when my violent husband not only swung for me, but all of a sudden, swung for my sister. Of course I thought of that. I didn’t expect her to show up or not to show up, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t change what I believed at the time when we were on the stairs and I thought he was going to kill my sister by pushing her down the stairs.”

“I know how many people will come out in support of him… I know how many people will come out and say whatever for him. That’s his power. That’s why I wrote the op-ed, I was speaking to that phenomenon, how many people will come out in support of him and fall to his power. He is a very powerful man and people love currying favor with powerful men. And I know that first-hand, I’ve lived it. I have seen people do this time and time again, that’s why I wrote the op-ed.”

Kate Moss Appeared Very Briefly in the Trial

Kate Moss did not take part in the legal proceedings for very long. After establishing when she had a romantic relationship with Johnny Depp, which was in the 1990s, Moss clarified what really happened with the staircase. Moss described an incident where she had fallen down and hurt her back, and when Depp saw this, he carried her hotel room and immediately called for medical attention. She also adamantly said that Depp “never pushed me, or kicked me, or threw me down the stairs.”

The trial is expected to wrap up on Friday.
