No settlement was reached in the final talks between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s lawyers on Friday, at which point Judge Penney Azcarate officially entered the jury verdict into court record. After a weeks-long trial that was broadcast on television and streamed live on the internet, a jury had determined that Heard had defamed Depp with “false and defamatory” allegations of domestic abuse. Depp was awarded $15 million in damages, though that was later reduced to $10.35 million due to Virginia law.

The jury had also found Depp liable for one of three counts of defaming Heard based on comments made by his previous attorney, Adam Waldman, and Depp was ordered to pay Heard $2 million. This still puts Heard on the hook for over $8 million in damages owed to Depp. Instead of negotiating a settlement, Heard’s champ will instead pursue plans to appeal the decision, even if it winds up costing Heard more than it would be to pay the damages.

Per TMZ, the judge noted that an appeal will require Heard to post a bnod in the full amount of the judgment as well as an additional 6% fee. That would amount to another $621,000 to pay in order to get the appeal in motion. A spokesperson for Heard has explained this decision in a statement provided to MovieWeb, which you can read below.

Amber Heard Will Tell More of Her Story in a New Book

While Amber Heard’s lawyer have claimed that the actress does not have the money to pay Johnny Depp, she may have recently run into a large sum of cash. It was reported that Heard will be writing a tell-all book detailing her relationship with Depp. Even if the majority of the public does not believe Heard’s claims, especially with a jury ruling in Depp’s favor, her story is still deemed valuable enough to have reportedly netted Heard a multi-million dollar paycheck.

In any case, Heard insists that she didn’t tell a single lie on the stand during the defamation trial. A subsequent television interview with Savannah Guthrie for Today saw Heard claiming that she will stand by every word of her testimony until her “dying day.” She stands by the allegations that Depp had abused her on a frequent basis for years and says the trial only further victimized her by taking away her voice.

“I took for granted what I assumed was my right to speak,” Heard said in the Today interview. “I’m scared that no matter what I do, no matter what I say, or how I say it — every step that I take will present another opportunity for this sort of — silencing, which is what, I guess, a defamation lawsuit is meant to do.”

It’s not over just yet with Heard planning to move forward with the appeal. Meanwhile, Depp seems to have quickly moved on, as he’s been performing on stage with Jeff Beck at UK concerts and announced a European tour with his band Hollywood Vampires.
