Many fans were thrilled to see Johnny Depp back on television with a special cameo at the MTV Video Music Awards, but that’s not to say everybody watching enjoyed the appearance. Soon after the show, Amber Heard’s sister, Whitney Henriquez, took to Instagram to post a screenshot of the awards show’s official logo, though she put a “D” in front of “VMA,” alluding to domestic violence with the phrase. Henriquez also wrote “I stand with Amber Heard” on the image along with a picture of Heard and a message condemning MTV.
“MTV you’re disgusting and clearly desperate! I really hope that none of the people that made this call have daughters…” Henriquez said, using all capital letters.

This was the first television appearance Depp had made since the airing of his defamation trial with Heard. Depp came out victorious with the verdict leaning heavily in his favor, as the jury agreed that Heard’s allegations of domestic violence had been fabricated. The verdict has seemingly brought about vindication for Depp, given how his appearance on MTV was mostly embraced, despite some criticism from Henriquez and others. Depp has also been working heavily on his music with plans to go back on tour with his band, Hollywood Vampires, in 2023. He is also set to lead the cast of the upcoming French drama Jeanne du Barry and will direct an Amedeo Modigliani biopic with Al Pacino producing.

If Johnny Depp was “canceled” before over the allegations, he doesn’t seem to be now, given that the work is now flowing in for the entertainer. This is in line with a statement Depp released soon after the trial in which he expressed his gratitude for the jury giving him his “life back.”
“False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were ever brought against me,” Depp said. “It had already traveled around the world twice within a nanosecond and it had a seismic impact on my life and my career. And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”
He added, “The best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun.”
However, the legal battle is not entirely over just yet. Heard and her legal team have formally filed an appeal of the verdict, giving Depp’s ex-wife one last shot at challenging the $15 million judgment against her. In any case, the general public seems to have already welcomed back Depp with open arms, and we’ll probably be seeing a lot more of him on the stage as well as on the big and small screens in the months and years ahead.
