After Amber Heard took the stand to present her side of the story in her televised legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, a new statement released by her spokesperson speaking on behalf of the Aquaman star exhibits some confidence in how the proceedings are going. Heard is the defendant in the trial that began after Depp sued her for defamation, alleging she fabricated abuse claims in order to tarnish his career. Arguing that she’s the one being defamed, Heard counter-sued.
Depp’s lawyers have said that Heard is giving the “performance of her life” in a statement, per TMZ. This statement also accuses Heard of coming up with “new and convenient details” for her stories, while noting that Depp’s recollections have always stayed the same. In a new statement from Heard’s spokesperson to MovieWeb, it is conversely stated that Depp’s claim is “falling apart” as the trial progresses. The former Pirates of the Caribbean actor is also accused of “attacking the victim” by alleging Heard to be his abuser. As the statement reads:

Team Heard’s statement also points to text messages Depp is said to have sent to Heard which they say supports her claims that he’d assaulted her. Additionally, they make the claim that Depp’s lawyers are fighting hard to prevent more evidence from being introduced. The statement also goes on to criticize Depp’s trial behavior, from doodling pictures to avoiding eye contact with Heard.
“As evidenced by the statement just released, Mr. Depp’s defamation claim is falling apart so rapidly that his counsel are turning from prosecutor to persecutor. They boast that Mr. Depp’s story has not changed. If so, since he lost the Domestic Violence Restraining Order and he resoundingly lost the libel case in the UK, perhaps he should consider a new strategy rather than the recycled approach of attacking the victim, and refusing to take responsibility for his own conduct.”
“If Mr. Depp was truly innocent, why has he repeatedly apologized to Ms. Heard and promised to put the ‘monster away for good.’ One of Ms. Heard’s disappointments is Mr. Depp’s inability to distinguish fact from fiction – a malady which appears to have spread to his legal team. That same team is so panicked they are fighting tooth and nail to prevent compelling evidence and photos from being introduced. Small wonder Mr. Depp does not have the fortitude or courage to even look at Ms. Heard at all throughout the proceedings – as he could not in the UK trial - and, instead he doodles and snickers. Mr. Depp’s behavior in this trial has been as pitiful as it was in their marriage. Apparently, they feel they must double-down on their demonstrably losing two-part strategy: distract the jury and demonize the victim.”
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s Legal Battle Continues
Johnny Depp’s lawsuit is specifically about an op-ed written by Amber Heard for The Washington Post in 2018. At the time, Heard did not name Depp in the article, but Depp says the connection was clear as she had publicly accused him of abuse in 2016. Because Depp says Heard fabricated the abuse claims, he alleges she cost him his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, among other lucrative roles. He is suing for $50 million while Heard had counter-sued for $100 million.
Previously, Depp had sued New Group Newspapers in the UK over an article in The Sun referring to him as a “wife beater.” Depp had lost that case with his subsequent appeal rejected. For this U.S. lawsuit against Heard personally, it will instead be up to a jury this time to ultimately decide if she fabricated her abuse claims about Depp in order to destroy his career, as Depp alleges.
