Amber Heard has shed more light on how she feels following her defamation trial. This week, Heard took part in an interview with Savannah Guthrie for NBC’s Today, with different segments of the interview airing throughout the week. In a newly-released portion of the interview, Heard was asked about a text message written by Johnny Depp declaring Heard would face “total global humiliation.” Heard argued that she’s not “perfect” but still describes herself as a “victim” of Depp’s abuse, agreeing that her ex-husband has in fact did what he’d “promised.”
Depp had specifically sued Heard over comments she’d made in an op-ed written for The Washington Post in 2018. The story did not refer to Depp by name but referred to becoming known as a victim of abuse two years prior, when she had gone public with allegations that her ex-husband had been assaulting her. Heard claims that the op-ed wasn’t about her marriage to Depp, but was about loaning her voice to “a bigger cultural conversation” that was happening at the time. When asked by Guthrie if she was hoping to “cancel” Depp, here’s what Heard said, per Variety:

Heard also touched on her current thoughts on Depp following their public legal battle. The Aquaman star says she cares about Depp and had tried her best to make their ill-fated marriage work out. While that wasn’t meant to be, Heard insists she doesn’t have any personal disdain towards Depp, despite coming out on the losing end of their televised defamation trial.
During the legal battle, Depp claimed that false allegations made by Heard had cost him major roles in movie franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts. A jury ultimately agreed, awarding Depp $15 million in damages on all three counts of alleged defamation. Jurors also found Depp liable for one of three counts of defamation in Heard’s counterclaim based on statements Depp’s former attorney Adam Waldman had previously made about Heard.
On Friday night, a special edition of Dateline will air the final installment of Heard’s interview with Savannah Guthrie. The show will also be made available for streaming on Peacock.
