As the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard comes to a close, both former lovers have taken to hitting the stand one more time. For her part, Heard took the stand as the trial’s final witness to plead her case one more time. It led to a contentious back-and-forth with Camille Vasquez, Depp’s attorney, as Heard was confronted with her alleged fabrications told about Depp before and during the trial.

Heard refuted Vasquez’s suggestions that her allegations of domestic violence were false. The Aquaman star also insists Depp continues to victimize her with the trial, describing the experience as “agonizing” and “humiliating.” Heard also says her hope is for Depp to leave her alone. Heard said of the trial and subsequent damage to her reputation:

Heard also attributed the negative attention she’s received online, such as the popular petition to have her removed from Aquaman 2, directly to Depp. She says her ex-husband “elicted millions of people” to attack her with internet campaigns. Heard claimed that she is not trying to depict herself as a saint but still has the American right to tell her story, seemingly pointing to freedom of speech to defend the op-ed she wrote in 2018 describing herself as a domestic abuse survivor.

Amber Heard Says She Was Speaking Out Against Powerful Men

Amber Heard says that what her op-ed was really about was standing up to “powerful men” like Johnny Depp. She claims that the people who have come out in support of Depp have fallen “to his power,” insinuating that the fans and fellow celebrities backing the actor are “currying favor” with him.

There are certainly many observers of the trial that believe Heard has not been truthful about her allegations of domestic violence. What will matter when it comes to this trial is how the members of the jury will feel. Both sides have passionately pled their cases, and as the evidence will be pored over during deliberations, the jury will be tasked with deciding if one of the ex-lovers had defamed the other and is deserving of financial compensation.

The trial is expected to officially wrap on Friday.
