American Gigolo is the newest Showtime TV series, developed by David Hollander and based on the 1980 film of the same name that starred Richard Gere. A long time in the making, per Variety’s report at the time, the series initially entered development back in 2014 with Jerry Bruckheimer and Paramount involved. In 2016, Showtime picked up the series and later ordered a pilot in 2020, with Hollander serving as showrunner.
American Gigolo premiered on Showtime in September 2022. Starring Jon Bernthal, the series follows Julian Kaye after he is released from his wrongful prison sentence of 15 years. In addition to Bernthal, the show features an ensemble cast that includes talented actors like Gretchen Mol, Gabriel LaBelle, and Rosie O’Donnell. American Gigolo season 1 conluded on October 30, 2022. While we await news of a potential season 2, here’s a look at the cast and other roles you’ve seen them play.

Jon Bernthal
Showtime
Jon Bernthal began his career in the early-2000s and gained initial prominence for his role as Shane Walsh on The Walking Dead. He would remain a main cast member in the first two seasons of the hit AMC show. After this role, his star power increased, and he continued to star in very prestigious roles. Arguably, his breakthrough came when he was cast as The Punisher in the formerly-Netflix era of Marvel television, first playing the role in season 2 of Daredevil and then headling his own self-titled series. In addition to his work on the small screen, Bernthal has also starred in hugely successful films like The Wolf of Wall Street, Baby Driver, and, more recently, King Richard. In American Gigolo, Bernthal plays the lead, Julian Kaye.
Gabriel LaBelle
Gabriel LaBelle stars as the younger version of Julian Kaye in American Gigolo. LaBelle is still an up-and-coming young actor, but, in his early career, has already starred in some notable films. Prior to American Gigolo, you may have recognized the actor as EJ in the 2018 reboot of The Predator. However, at the same time that American Gigolo premiered on Showtime, LaBelle’s latest movie The Fabelmans had its world premiere at Toronto International Festival. Directed by Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans is an autobiographical movie that explores the director’s discovery of film, with LaBelle playing the lead role of a fictionalized version of Spielberg.
Gretchen Mol
Showtime
Gretchen Mol plays Michelle in American Gigolo. An accomplished actor, she is perhaps best known for her role as Gillian Darmody in Boardwalk Empire. She has also appeared in more than 30 films over the years, including Celebrity, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, The Notorious Bettie Page, and Manchester by the Sea.
Rosie O’Donnell
Rosie O’Donnell is a huge Hollywood name, who started her career on a television show called Star Search. On American Gigolo, she plays Detective Sunday. In addition to her work as an actor, O’Donnell is perhaps best known for her daytime talk show The Rosie O’Donnell Show, which aired between 1996 and 2002. Throughout her career, she has starred in iconic movies like A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, and The Flintstones.
Lizzie Brocheré
Lizzie Brocheré portrays Isabelle in American Gigolo. In addition to the Showtime series, she has a variety of roles under her belt, having started in the industry as a child actress in 1995. She is an established actress in French cinema, in fact, and is best known to American audiences for her appearance as Coco in Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain and the role of Grace Bertrand in FX’s American Horror Story: Asylum. She was excellent in all of these roles, and surely brought the same success to American Gigolo.
Leland Orser
Leland Orser plays Richard Stratton on American Gigolo. Prior to his role on the Showtime series, he has turned in several prominent performances on TV shows like L.A Law, NYPD Blue, and The Golden Girls. In terms of movies, Orser has also had roles in Star Trek, Pearl Harbor, and Saving Private Ryan. An industry veteran, audiences will most likely remember him as Sam from the Liam Neeson-led Taken film series.
