Hollywood rising star, Ana de Armas, has bagged another leading role in a high-profile film project. Apple’s big-budget romantic action-adventure, Ghosted, which had Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson playing the leads, will now see de Armas step into the role Johansson vacated. The Black Widow actress left the film due to scheduling conflicts, with Deadline describing Johansson’s departure from Ghosted as “amicable.” Knives Out and Blade Runner 2049 actress Ana de Armas was recently announced as Johansson’s replacement. She will be reuniting with her Knives Out co-star, Chris Evans.

Ghosted is hailed as a romantic action-adventure and is penned by the screenwriter duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, best known for writing Deadpool and Zombieland. They are also producing the film. Ghosted is in the early phases of production, so the plot hasn’t been revealed yet, but the movie is said to be inspired by Romancing the Stone. Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody) is onboard to direct the film.
Scarlett Johansson joined Ghosted just a few days after filing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Disney. The lawsuit has since been settled, with Johansson rumored to be involved in a secret Marvel project. Perhaps that had something to do with her exit from Ghosted, but we can only speculate for now. Fans would have loved to see Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson reunite in a non-Marvel movie again on account of their incredible on-screen chemistry. The pair have previously starred together in 2004’s The Perfect Score and 2007’s The Nanny Diaries.
While we may not get to see Johansson and Evans together in a movie any time soon, we are getting another exciting team-up. Ana de Armas and Daniel Craig, along with Chris Evans, were the highlights of Rian Johnson’s 2019 mystery thriller, Knives Out, and fans thoroughly enjoyed their on-screen exchanges. Boasting an accomplished creative team, Ghosted is another spectacular entry in Apple’s schedule of highly anticipated films, which includes Ridley Scott’s Kitbag, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte, and Martin Scorsese’s western, Killers of the Flower Moon. Ghosted is slated to begin filming in February 2022, for a likely 2023 release on Apple TV+.
Ana de Armas is arguably the most sought-after actress in Hollywood right now. From her lead role in Knives Out to starring in No Time to Die, de Armas has taken the film industry by storm. She was also a front runner for the Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman and is headlining the John Wick spinoff movie, Ballerina. Ana de Armas will next be seen alongside Ben Affleck in Adrian Lyne’s erotic thriller Deep Water, releasing on January 14, 2021.
