And Just Like That… our celebrated New York City women are back! For generations of women, Sex and the City has been a crash course in relationships, friendships, reaching your goals, and picking yourself back up again when you fall. All of these hard-learned lessons were wrapped up in a beautiful package with the buzz and splendor of NYC serving as the backdrop to the tales. We got out first look at how Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte have evolved in the first official teaser.
HBO Max describes And Just Like That… as, “A new chapter of the groundbreaking HBO series, Sex and the City, from executive producer Michael Patrick King. The series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Sex and the City premiered on HBO in 1998, and the women (And men, you know it.) of the world gathered around week after week to settle into Carrie’s apartment to celebrate her successes, cringe at her mistakes, moan with disappointment in her decisions, and ultimately, make it in the Big Apple with the crucial support of her circle of friends. Times might have changed, but the lessons on life are timeless.
“Fourteen-year-old girls walking the dog with their dads call out to me, ‘I can’t wait!’ " Sarah Jessica Parker says. “I think young women still really relate to this story. It’s about finding friendships that matter, looking for work that fulfills you, and pursuing love, even when it drags you, bloodied, down the street.”
In her interview with Vogue, she admits that she kept everything from Carrie Bradshaw’s world. “I had all of the original stuff in my own storage. Furniture, clothes, everything, packed according to season and episode and scene. I kept every single solitary thing. Here are the Hangisis Big gave Carrie when he proposed; the sandals Aidan’s dog chewed on; the black pumps she wore to the Vogue fashion closet….”
The interviewer asks why Carrie still has her old apartment if she’s with Big (Chris Noth). Parker responds, “One of the questions that’s going to come up in And Just Like That… will be, What is it about a place like this that you need to hold on to for all these years? Why can’t you just let it go?”
Parker gave some background as to how the new series came to be. “In the spring of 2020, I was talking with Michael Patrick about doing a podcast about the behind-the-scenes making of Sex and the City. And we spoke about what we were missing in the pandemic: joy, community, the experience of being together. The world of Carrie and her friends has always been about coming home, and I felt like we needed that right now.”
The nostalgia it will bring will transport the viewers back to the time when they first sat down and took the dive into the world and city of Carrie Bradshaw. And Just Like That… premieres on HBO Max December 9.
