The first season of the Disney Plus series Andor recently wrapped up its first season to rave reviews, and fans are already eager to know more about season 2. Series creator Tony Gilroy recently gave an interview with Collider to talk about the creation of the show, and when to expect the next season:
The filming of season 2 began today and will conclude in August of next year, Gilroy confirmed. However, post-production takes much longer, especially in a series with many groundbreaking visual effects. Rogue One, in particular, had a similar timeframe of filming, but post-production took roughly only ten months. It was also one of the most expensive films ever made.
“If past is predicate, and we do the same thing we did before, it’ll be on the same schedule. It will come out two years later. The only place you can accelerate the processes is in post, and the only way you can accelerate in post is with money, and money is tight… Rogue One proved, if you throw money at it, you can do post really, really fast. It’s just very, very, very expensive.”

Gilroy also shed some light on his writing process, comparing it to a jigsaw puzzle:
Having built the ’edge’ of the puzzle for the second and final season, Gilroy confirmed that “we know what the final episode of the show is,” although the pieces in the middle still need to be figured out. When asked if the scripts for every episode were completed, Gilroy responded with a negative: “No… locked and perfect is a whole other process and it rolls out.”
“I’m not a jigsaw puzzle expert, but I think what you usually do is they usually start with the edges, right? The edge, get a frame. So, probably along the way, while I’m sketching all different things, and here’s a scene for who knows where this goes, and here’s another scene for another episode and landmark scenes all the way through and different things. But at a certain point, I’m looking for that, and a certain point I’m wasting my time if I don’t know what that is. I have to know where I’m going. Otherwise, you’re wasting time.”
Andor Creator Teases Andy Serkis Getting His Own Show
Warner Bros. Pictures
Andor fans gave a lot of praise for Andy Serkis’ character, Kino Loy, despite only appearing in three episodes. Serkis is perhaps the most well-known motion capture actor of all time, but has recently been acting the old-fashioned way in more films and series, including Andor. Tony Gilroy said that he’d been wanting to cast Serkis for while.
When asked if there was a possibility that Kino Loy returning for the next season, Gilroy had a tight-lipped answer, and joked about the unconfirmed fate of the Narkina 5 prisoner:
“Who wouldn’t want to be involved with Andy Serkis, man. Man, I pursued him, I think I told you, I pursued him for a year to try to get him.”
Star Wars: Andor premiered on September 21st, 2022, via Disney Plus, with the final episode of the first season having been released on November 23rd, 2022. The cast includes Diego Luna as the titular character, supported by Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgard, Fiona Shaw, and Andy Serkis. The second season has yet to get an official release date.
“I’m not answering that question. He could have his own show, maybe he’ll have his own show on Disney Plus… Maybe he’ll become a maritime lawyer in the future, or swimming instructor.
