The Spider-Man franchise has one of the largest fanbases in the world and always leaves Marvel fans wanting more. From Tobey Maguire to Andrew Garfield to Tom Holland, the Spider-Man movies have made the fandom grow even stronger with every movie. Created by Stan Lee, Spider-Man’s superhuman strength, speed, and swiftness has been gracing our screens since his creation in 1962. One of the most promising actors of our generation, Andrew Garfield, reminisced on his time as the superhero and what the franchise means to him in an exclusive interview with the Farooqi Brothers on Cinema Debate.

“I have been a part of a lineage of a character that has meant something to me since before I could talk, that is just the coolest thing ever,” Garfield said. “It’s bigger than me, it’s bigger than Tom Holland, it’s bigger than Tobey Maguire, it’s bigger than Miles Morales, everyone can project themselves into that suit. It’s all of our story.”

Garfield recently starred in the Netflix movie Tick, Tick…Boom alongside Robin de Jesus, Alexandra Shipp, and Vanessa Hudgens. He portrayed playwright Jonathan Larson on the premise of creating his best known work, “Rent.” Garfield received critical acclaim for his performance and has been nominated for a Critics Choice award, a Golden Globe, and is also getting a lot of Oscar buzz as well. Starring in hits such as The Social Network and Hacksaw Ridge, Garfield has definitely made a name for himself in Hollywood, but his role as Spider-Man will probably stay a fan favorite for years to come. Fans have even pleaded with Marvel to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in order to complete Garfield’s Spider-Man trilogy.

The newest movie in the franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home, was fantastic at the box office, garnering $587 million at its opening weekend. The movie, starring Tom Holland, explores the concept of the multiverse and ties the MCU to past Spider-Man films, with Garfield and Maguire reprising their roles from their respective Spider-man films. In addition, No Way Home also brought back villains such as Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, and more.

When asked about his opinion on streaming services such as Netflix taking over the world of cinema, Garfield responded, “I have a strange faith in our human need for communal experience and I think we will define that, it’s up to us to define that. I love storytelling… I want people to get stories that are meaningful and whatever allows that is incredible.”

You can catch Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home playing now in theaters and watch Tick, Tick…Boom on Netflix.
