Rosie O’Donnell has come to regret jokes she previously made about actress Anne Heche. Currently, Heche is hospitalized with severe burn injuries after a car she was driving crashed into a Los Angeles home. She reportedly fell into a coma shortly after the accident and remains unconscious. It was last reported that Heche is in “extreme critical condition” with her family asking for prayers and support.

Taking to TikTok, O’Donnell commented on the situation with Heche. It had her thinking about jokes she made at Heche’s expense about two decades ago. Back in 2001, Heche had participated in a 20/20 interview in which she claimed to have “created a fantasy world” as a means of escape after she’d been abused by her father. Heche said she adopted an alternate personality she named “Celestia” and that she had escaped to this fantasy world so often that she started to truly believe it. As Heche said at the time:

About a year after this interview, O’Donnell was present at the Ovarian Cancer Research benefit at Manhattan’s Carolines Comedy Club when she poked fun at the incident. Per US Weekly, O’Donnell referred to Heche’s interview as a “train wreck.” She then mocked Heche for dating men following the end of her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres by cracking this joke:

Now, O’Donnell wishes she could take it all back. From her TikTok video, O’Donnell says she feels haunted by her past comments given the recent news of Heche’s recent accident.

O’Donnell then touches on the dangers of impaired driving, seemingly in response to reports that police suspect Heche may not have been sober at the time of the accident. A warrant had been reportedly obtained for a blood test, thought the results have not yet been revealed and it hasn’t been proven at this time that the actress was driving drunk. With that said, O’Donnell still uses this opportunity to urge her followers to seek assistance if dealing with alcoholism.
