AMC Network’s Anne Rice universe continues to expand. Variety reports that Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will return for a second season at AMC. This is AMC’s second series based on Rice’s successful works. Interview with the Vampire, starring Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson, premiered last year. Following critical and audience praise, the series was renewed for a second season last fall. Mayfair Witches premiered last month and quickly became the number-one new series on AMC+.

In a statement, AMC Networks’ President of Entertainment and AMC Studios Dan McDermott said:

AMC Networks acquired the rights to Rice’s popular book series The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches in 2020. Together, both series contain 18 titles. The network holds the rights to all titles for television, streaming, and partner distribution. Sadly, Rice died on Dec. 11, 2021, before either series came to fruition.

“We are thrilled with the reaction to this series, especially in the wake of the incredibly strong reception to Interview, and can’t wait to bring the fans second seasons of both series in this rich, vibrant and expanding universe based on the works of Anne Rice. In a business in which ‘nobody knows anything,’ we knew what we were hoping for in terms of building a television franchise around these remarkable characters and stories, and to see these shows arrive and captivate viewers in the way they have is so gratifying and energizing for everyone involved, and there is so much yet to come.”

Mayfair Witches’ Supernatural Tale

     AMC+

Mayfair Witches was created by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, adapted from Rice’s trilogy. The supernatural drama follows Rowan Fielding, a young neurosurgeon portrayed by Alexandria Daddario, who discovers she is the descendant of a family of powerful witches. As Rowan comes to terms with her newly discovered powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

Mayfair Witches also stars Jack Huston as Lasher, a shape-shifting entity; Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, a supernatural investigator trying to help Rowan; and Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, Rowan’s father. It is produced by AMC Studios and executive produced by Spalding, Mark Johnson, Ashford, Michael Uppendahl, and Jeff Freilich, with Spalding serving as series showrunner.

Production for season two of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches should begin later this year in New Orleans. The first season of Mayfair Witches, comprised of eight episodes, is currently airing on AMC and streaming on AMC+. The first season concludes on Feb. 26.
