AMC+ is quickly expanding its Anne Rice collection. Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will be the second adaptation for the network. Interview with the Vampire, starring Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson, premiered earlier this month. Yesterday, an official trailer for the upcoming series premieres during New York Comic-Con, before a panel that included series stars Alexandra Daddario, Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa, Harry Hamlin, and series showrunner Esta Spalding and executive producer Michelle Ashford.
Based on Anne Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches novel trilogy, the series follows neurosurgeon Dr. Rowan Fielding (Daddario), who uncovers that she is the descendant of a line of witches. According to the series’ official logline: She must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations. In the eerie trailer for the upcoming series, we see Daddario attempting to come to terms with her discovered ancestry and newfound “gifts.” The trailer also introduces audiences to other lead cast members, including Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, Rowan’s father; Chirisa as Ciprien, a supernatural investigator trying to help the young doctor; and Huston as Lasher, an evil shape-shifting entity that’s been connected to the Mayfair witches for centuries.

In 2020, AMC networks acquired the rights to The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches, two of Rice’s best-selling series. The two series are comprised of 18 titles, including the popular The Queen of the Damned. The rights to all the titles are held by AMC Networks for television, streaming and partner distribution.
Rice wrote her first book, Interview with the Vampire, in 1973 while grieving the death of her daughter. While the novel did not gain initial success, Rice became popular in the 1980s. In 1994, Interview with the Vampire, starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, premiered to positive reviews and introduced Rice to new audiences. Rice died in December 2021, at 80, but her son Christopher Rice is set to serve as an executive producer on all films and series developed under the AMC deal.
During the panel, an official premiere date was announced. Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will premiere January 5, 2023, on streamer AMC+ with two episodes. Subsequent episodes will follow weekly. The first season will include eight episodes.
