Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed has revealed further details regarding Jonathan Majors’ debut as the villainous Kang the Conqueror. Speaking with Empire, Reed teased the differences between Majors’ previous Marvel character, Loki’s He Who Remains, and Kang, who the filmmaker describes as “an all-timer antagonist.”
So, while He Who Remains was presented as having an animated, over-eager energy (no doubt thanks in large part to losing his mind after being on his own for so long and trying to keep the multiverse in check), his variant, Kang, will be completely different. Something that was already been hinted at in the recent trailer. Reed further hyped Majors’ bad guy, saying how interesting it is to find one of the less-respected Avengers coming face-to-face with the MCU’s biggest threat.
“Kang The Conqueror in our movie is a very different character. He’s someone who has dominion over time, and he’s a warrior and a strategist.”

Thus, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania officially kicks off phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and finds Super-Hero partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. With Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.
“That’s interesting to me: to take the tiniest, and in some people’s minds weakest, Avenger, and put them up against this absolute force of nature.”
Kang the Conqueror Will Return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
Marvel Studios
The force of nature that is Kang the Conqueror will be far more than just a one-and-done villain. Majors is already confirmed to be returning to face the Avengers in 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is expected to find a new team of Marvel heroes doing battle with the time-traveling warrior. This presumably means that Ant-Man and his pals will fail to stop Kang from leaving the Quantum Realm. Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to pit Ant-Man against Kang after all…
Details regarding Avengers: The Kang Dynasty are largely unknown at present, but it has been confirmed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the outing, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness penning the screenplay. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025.
Directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay by Jeff Loveness, and starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Hope van Dyne aka Wasp respectively, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, Bill Murray, and William Jackson Harper, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released on February 17, 2023, as the first film of Phase Five of the MCU.
