Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will see Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang delving into the multiverse and coming face to face with Kang the Conqueror. However, by his side will be Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne, Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, Michelle Pfieffer’s Janet van Dyne and MCU newcomer Kathryn Newton who takes over the role of Cassie Lang, Scott’s daughter.
Having significantly grown while Scott was trapped in the Quantum Realm during the Blip, the father and daughter have missed a lot of time together, and that will partly be addressed in Ant-Man 3. However, there is a more important role for Cassie to play in the movie, as director Peyton Reed explained to Nerdbunker.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“When Paul and I started on the first movie, it was the question of, will audiences accept Paul Rudd as a superhero? Will people accept Ant-Man, a guy who shrinks and controls ants, as a character? And they have. And that’s really gratifying, and I think audiences really relate to Scott Lang because he doesn’t have superpowers, he’s not a super-scientist, he’s not a billionaire. He’s a regular person who just happens to get caught up in these adventures.
But I think we’ve all grown and what we want to do with the movies and how we see the character, the family dynamics, to us, after the events of [Avengers: Infinity War] and Endgame, it really occurred to us, obviously, ‘Well, Cassie’s going to be 18 in this movie, that’s great.’ The whole theme is time and how much time he’s missed, and his main motivation is just, ‘I want time with my daughter.’ And now he’s coming into contact with a villain in this movie, Kang the Conqueror, who has dominion over time, and what does that mean to them?”
Kathryn Newton Says Cassie Lang Is “Kind Of A Mess” In Quantumania
As the third star to play Cassie Lang, Kathryn Newton is about it become the most prominent version of the character to appear in the MCU, and that could mean a long future ahead for the 25-year-old. From the trailers for Quantumania, Cassie is clearly not a secondary character, and seems to be getting her fair share of the action along side her dad. In a previous interview, Newton explained that Cassie is not quite ready for everything the movie throws at her.
With rumors that Cassie could soon become part of the Young Avengers group, her first big MCU adventure seems very unlikely to be her last. However, the stakes in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are clearly higher than in any other Ant-Man movie, and that could mean that none of the film’s heroes are safe.
“That I’m really not perfect and I’m super impatient and I want to be a hero but I have no idea what I’m doing and I think Cassie Lang is like that. She’s just trying to figure out how to be a good person and you know making a lot of mistakes. She’s kind of a mess really, yeah, and so am I. You’re definitely gonna see some of that. Oh, my good heart.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 17, 2023.
