A new image from the upcoming MCU sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finds Paul Rudd’s character Scott Lang coming face-to-face with the franchise’s next major villain, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. The images come courtesy of Empire, and offer another look at Major’s surprisingly comic-accurate suit, with the supervillain no doubt making Scott Lang an offer he can’t refuse. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will reunite audiences with Marvel heroes Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, along with Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne who, along with Lang’s daughter Cassie, are dragged into a new adventure exploring the Quantum Realm that pushes their limits. Exploring the mysterious realm will find them facing all manner of danger, none more threatening than the all-powerful Kang the Conqueror.

While the Ant-Man movies have largely been smaller (get it?), more insular adventures, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania promises to have a significant impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanks mainly to the introduction of Creed 3 and Loki star Jonathan Majors as Kang. “I think it has a profound impact on the MCU,” director Peyton Reed says of the sequel. “Jeff Loveness, who wrote this movie, is writing The Kang Dynasty as well, so there’s been a lot of discussion about the impact that this appearance of Kang The Conqueror makes. There are big things in store.”

This is not the first time that Reed has teased the influence of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on the hugely popular Marvel franchise going forward. “Kicking off Phase 5 is really exciting for us, because, we’re the Ant-Man movies. It’s our third movie. It’s this trilogy now. But things happen in this movie that are going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe permanently. And it’s fun for us that Scott Lang is at the center of that change,” the filmmaker said back in July.
Aside from Kang, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will give a much bigger role to Scott Lang’s daughter, Cassie. Recast since being aged-up in Avengers: Endgame, actress Kathryn Newton has revealed several details regarding the character. Who, alongside Kang, is expected to become a major player. “That I’m really not perfect and I’m super impatient and I want to be a hero but I have no idea what I’m doing and I think Cassie Lang is like that,” Newton said. “She’s just trying to figure out how to be a good person and you know making a lot of mistakes. She’s kind of a mess really, yeah, and so am I. You’re definitely gonna see some of that. Oh, my good heart.”
Directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay by Jeff Loveness, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, aka Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 17, 2023.
