Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the next big upcoming Marvel movie and fan theories about what will happen still abound. Ever since the official trailer dropped a month ago, people have been talking about what will happen to Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his adoptive Pym family, not to mention his daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton).
As this group of famous Marvel scientists and superheroes shrinks themselves into the Quantum Realm once more, what will they be forced to contend with? What possible dangers await Ant-Man, the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), and perhaps the new hero, Stature? Anything is possible in the Quantum Realm.

Fans will remember that Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) once lost his old flame, Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) to that tiny world when they were experimenting with quantum technology for the first time. In a time when this old scientist was Ant-Man, and Janet, the Wasp, she was sucked down into the Quantum Realm and not recovered until the first Ant-Man sequel.
But Janet has always seemed apprehensive about her life apart from Hank Pym and the normal world. In the Quantumania trailer, we’ve seen a whole other society existing in that tiny space. Janet could have lived a completely different life down there. So, what is Janet hiding in the Quantum Realm?
Janet Van Dyne Might Have Known Kang
Marvel Studios
In the trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we saw Cassie activate some kind of device that allowed her to communicate with the Quantum Realm. Immediately, Janet became concerned. When she found out that Cassie’s device was transmitting something into the Quantum Realm, she demanded that Cassie shut it off, but before anyone could do anything, everyone in the room was sucked down into that strange microscopic place. Then we discovered that the Quantum Realm was filled with more than just huge tardigrades and massive motes of dust; there was a whole civilization down there. We even saw what looked like an entire city reveal itself.
If all that existed in the Quantum Realm was another alien race, why was Janet so worried? We saw Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) in the trailer. We heard his voice threatening Scott. But is he the imminent danger that had Janet Van Dyne so scared?
She certainly lived in that place for long enough to be familiar with all the goings-on. It’s entirely possible that Janet had known about Kang long before anyone else in the MCU. She might have even been aware of this time-traveling supervillain before Loki. It just depends on how long Kang has been down there.
Kang the Conqueror, or at least a variant of him, might have been in the Quantum Realm for a while. Perhaps he has been trapped there, similar to how Janet was trapped there until Ant-Man was able to save her. Kang could have been stuck in the Quantum Realm and all he needed to get out was someone with the proper technology.
That’s why Janet has been so scared of going back, and why she has been warning Hank and the others about the dangers down there. She might have known that Kang has been down there waiting for the proper means to be able to grow himself and conquer the world of regular people. The only things keeping him there might have been He Who Remains and the right science.
Janet Van Dyne Has a Baby
Marvel Comics
There have been a lot of fan theories concerning which character Bill Murray is playing in Quantumania. Right now, he is listed on IMDb as Krylar, an alien who only appeared once in an old issue of The Incredible Hulk and died almost as soon as he showed up.
He’s a deep cut for sure, and it won’t be useful to look into the comic lore for clues. One of the most popular fan theories about Murray’s character is that he is a strange alien living in the Quantum Realm who once had a relationship with Janet Van Dyne.
Some fans believe that while Janet was stuck in the Quantum Realm, she may have had an affair with someone down there, and Bill Murray’s character might be the perfect subject. Some fans have gone further and posited that perhaps Janet had a whole life while she was shrunk down.
It’s possible that, without the foreseeable hope that she might ever escape her fate, Janet started a tiny family in the Quantum Realm. She may have a child waiting for her down there whom Krylar has been taking care of for all these years. Though she already had a daughter in the normal world, it’s possible that Hope might have a sister shrunk down to a quantum size. When Hank and Hope reach the Quantum Realm, they might meet Janet’s second family, or at the very least, discover that she had a relationship with Krylar that no one had known about.
Whatever Janet is worried about, the possibilities are endless, but she’s very apprehensive about what could be waiting for her in the Quantum Realm. We’ll have to wait until Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quatnumania to find out what it might be.
