The upcoming Marvel sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is far from an Avengers ‘palate cleanser,’ says producer Stephen Broussard. Speaking with Total Film, who have also released a new image of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang alongside his daughter Cassie played by Kathryn Newton, Broussard teases the epic scope of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and its importance to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While the Ant-Man franchise has largely been used a breather, with the first outing in 2015 coming after Avengers: Age of Ultron while Ant-Man and the Wasp came following the devastating ending of Avengers: Infinity War, this will not be the case for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Instead, the sequel will introduce Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror who, as Broussard teases, will become the next major threat to the MCU.

“Coming after the Avengers movies, phrases like ‘palate cleanser’ had been thrown around about the Ant-Man movies. [We felt] if we’re getting a chance at part three, we want the film to be big and feel central to the future of the MCU.”

“He is very powerful, very formidable, very strong, and will have, obviously, an ongoing presence, à la Thanos in the stories, going forward in ways that are different from Thanos and feel very fresh to us.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Will Delve Ever Deeper into the Quantum Realm

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will reunite audiences with Marvel heroes Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, along with Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne who, along with Lang’s daughter Cassie, are dragged into a new adventure exploring the Quantum Realm that pushes their limits. Exploring the mysterious realm will find them facing all manner of danger, none more threatening than the all-powerful Kang the Conqueror. The Quantum Realm remains a mystery to both audiences and the inhabitants of the MCU but, according to Broussard, the threequel will delve ever deeper into the complex world beneath our own.

Directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay by Jeff Loveness, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne aka Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang. The sequel finds our heroes coming face-to-face with Loki star Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, who we already know will go on to battle The Avengers in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2025. A detail that does not bode too well for Scott Lang and his family…

“It feels like a place you haven’t been to before in the MCU, full of people and characters and worlds and politics and history.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 17, 2023. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty meanwhile is set to be helmed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton, and will land in theaters on May 2, 2025.
