Scott Lang and the rest of the Ant-Man gang find themselves in the clutches of Kang the Conqueror in a new look at the upcoming Marvel sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Coming courtesy of Empire, this latest look at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania further teases the overwhelming threat that Kang will pose to Ant-Man and The Wasp when they find themselves sucked into the Quantum Realm.

Adorning the covers of the latest issue, the first image finds Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne alongside Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and Freaky star Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, who is expected to emerge from the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as a fully-fledged superhero. Of course, Kang looms over the image as he will no doubt loom over Scott throughout the movie.

The second cover is more of a “mind-melting, Quantum Realm-inspired explosion of colour” and perhaps teases what some of the visuals will look like when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters next month.

Kang the Conqueror is an Avengers-Level Threat & Will Continue to Torment the MCU in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay by Jeff Loveness, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, aka Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang. The sequel finds our heroes coming face-to-face with Loki star Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, a new enemy with a mysterious agenda who will push the heroes to their limits as they attempt to navigate this mysterious world.

While the Ant-Man franchise has been a light-hearted slice of the MCU, returning director Peyton Reed has promised that the stakes will be much higher in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania thanks to the presence of Kang. “People felt like, Oh, these are fun little palate cleansers after a gigantic Avengers movie,” the filmmaker said of the franchise so far. “For this third one, I said, ‘I don’t want to be the palate cleanser anymore. I want to be the big Avengers movie.’”

Reed cannot help but hype the debut of Kang, with Loki star Jonathan Majors set to return to the MCU after playing one of Kang’s variants, He Who Remains. “Kang The Conqueror in our movie is a very different character. He’s someone who has dominion over time, and he’s a warrior and a strategist,” Reed teased before revealing just how much of a menace the supervillain will be. “That’s interesting to me: to take the tiniest, and in some people’s minds weakest, Avenger, and put them up against this absolute force of nature.”

Based on the recent trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a force of nature is exactly what Kang will be, with the bad guy seen beating Scott Lang to a pulp before firing hugely powerful blasts of energy from his hands. No wonder he is already due to return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2025.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released on Feb. 17 as the MCU’s first film of Phase Five.
