Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has officially been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for “violence/action, and language.” The film, directed by Peyton Reed, is set to hit theaters on Feb. 17 and will kick off Phase 5 of the MCU. In addition to Paul Rudd, the cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania includes returning cast members such as Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. The film will also introduce several new characters, including the villainous Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors.
It’s worth noting that all previous MCU films have been rated PG-13 as well, such as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Eternals. Each of these films received a rating for “violence/action and language” or similar reasons. So while some fans may have been hoping for an R-rating for a film in the MCU, it is unlikely that Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will be the one to break the mold.

Is Marvel Studios Set to Embrace R-Rated Content with Deadpool 3?
Movieweb
Despite the danger and action in their films, Marvel Studios is not expected to include any content that would push the film beyond a PG-13 rating. While Marvel has produced some R-rated movies in the past, such as Blade, the majority of their films are targeted towards a wider audience and are rated PG-13. This allows the movies to be enjoyed by a broader range of viewers, including families and younger audiences.
That being said, Marvel Studios has also hinted that the upcoming Deadpool 3 might be the first R-rated Marvel movie. The Deadpool franchise is known for its over-the-top violence and language, and it seems fitting for the studio to give that character his own R-rated movie. Fans of the franchise can expect more of the same from Deadpool 3, including Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the titular character and will be joined by Hugh Jackman, who is reprising his role as Wolverine from Fox’s X-Men franchise. Plot details of the film have not yet been revealed, but fans can expect more of the same comedic and action-packed elements that made the first two films so popular.
This is also a good opportunity for Marvel Studio to explore different tones and styles of storytelling, and it will be interesting to see how they will incorporate the potential R-rated Deadpool into the larger MCU. It may also open the door for other R-rated movies in the future.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases in theaters on Friday, Feb. 17.
