Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to be the biggest Ant-Man movie to date, and that seems to include the longest runtime of Paul Rudd’s trilogy. In listings shared by Fandango, the kick-off movie of the MCU’s Phase 5 clocks in at two hours and five minutes, which is around 8 minutes longer than the previous two movies.

The runtime itself is nothing spectacular within the MCU, with many movies clocking in around the same time or higher, but it seems to be giving fans a little more time in the Quantum Realm adventure this time around. With the movie seemingly having three villains on board, in the form of Kang the Conqueror, M.O.D.O.K, and Bill Murray’s low-level antagonist, there is a lot of action to be crammed into the film, and that can only be a good thing to keep it flowing.

While there is plenty known about the former of the two villains in Marvel circles, Murray’s character is more of an unknown. However, director Payton Reed recently explained that the new addition to the MCU will have a direct link to one of the movie’s heroes. He said:

“Bill Murray plays a character from Janet van Dyne’s past… It’s a crucial role. A big theme in this movie is the things that parents and kids don’t say to each other, the secrets that they keep in families. In the last movie, when Hank and Hope rescue Janet, Evangeline Lilly’s character had this idea of: Oh, I’m going to be reunited with my mom, this is going to be great, we’re going to talk about everything.

But what happens if the other person, in this case Janet, puts up a wall and maybe is not comfortable talking about certain things and doesn’t reveal certain things about her past? As we know from great stories, you can put the past behind you, but the past will always find a way to show up again. Bill’s character represents that in this movie.”

How Will Quantumania Set Up Avengers: Secret Wars?

There are no guarantees that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will provide a direct link to the upcoming events at the end of the Multiverse Saga. However, it has been made clear that this time, Ant-Man will not just be a bit of light relief, and his third solo movie will set the ball rolling on the path to Avengers: Secret Wars.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was originally announced as the final movie in Phase 4, but over the last year, that all changed when Marvel Studios unveiled their next three years of movies, with Quantumania leading the way as the opening Phase 5 film. With so much on the line, there is no way of telling what will befall Scott Lang and his gang by the end of Quantumania, but it will have serious ramifications for the future of the MCU. Fans will get to see a new trailer for Quantumania on Jan. 9, and the movie goes on worldwide release on Feb. 17, 2023.
