Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon continues to grow its impressive cast by adding Anthony Hopkins as the voice of battle robot Jimmy. The sci-fi movie is part of a Snyder’s first-look partnership with Netflix, and after delivering the monster hit Army of the Dead and its prequel follow-up, there are big things expected of the director’s foray into Star Wars territory. Having released a few brief teases of what to expect from the epic movie, it is already looking like Snyder fans will be happy.

Rebel Moon is based on an old idea that Snyder floated by Lucasfilm many years ago to be considered for their Star Wars universe. As the idea was never taken up, Snyder has now been given the chance to not only create the movie on its own merits but potentially build his own franchise at Netflix, if things go according to plan. The film is “set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, then dispatching a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.”

According to the report by Deadline, two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins joins the movie in the role of Jimmy, an “impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.” He is now the latest star to be added to the cast list that includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang and Staz Nair.

New Footage From Rebel Moon’s Production Released During Geeked Week

     Netflix

While the arrival of Rebel Moon is still a long way off, Zack Snyder shared a new piece of footage during Netflix’s Geeked Week event, showing off a make-up test on one of the new alien creatures that feature in the movie. While the new clip gives a good look at the interesting alien design being used in the movie, the true inspiration behind the film still comes from that galaxy far, far away.

Of course, Rebel Moon is not the first franchise Snyder has started at Netflix, having already added a prequel, upcoming sequel and animated spin-off to his Army of the Dead movie. While many still hang onto the hope that Warner Bros. will ask Snyder to return to work on the DCEU and “restore the Snyderverse,” it seems that the director has put himself in a position where he will probably be too busy creating his new worlds to worry about what might have been as part of Warner Bros. comic book franchise.
