Actor Antonio Banderas felt something deeply emotional when working alongside Hollywood legend Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, calling it “beautiful to just be close to him.” Discussing the Indiana Jones sequel with Total Film, Banderas compared acting alongside Ford to a childhood dream, likening it to when fans talk to him about Shrek.

Banderas has already revealed that his role as Renaldo, a friend of Indy’s, is not a major role in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. But it certainly sounds like the actor got the exact experience he was looking for despite this.

“It was beautiful to just be close to him. Some interviewers today, they say to me, ‘Oh my God, I was 7 when Shrek 2 came out, and so now I’m 27 and interviewing you and I’ve been watching your movies since that time.’ But the same thing happened to me with Harrison. I remember the first time I saw Indiana Jones, and I flipped out. So just being there, it was beautiful.”

This is far from the first time that Banderas has praised working with Ford, previously calling the iconic actor “a gentleman on the set and outside of the set” and revealing how seeing Ford in costume as Indy for the first time left him feeling star-struck.

“My character is very little. He’s not a bad guy, he’s a friend of Indiana, helping at some point in the movie. But it’s not very big.”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Will be Harrison Ford’s Final Time as the Iconic Adventurer

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will pick up with American archeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones now living in 1969 against the backdrop of the Space Race. But Jones is uneasy over the fact that the U.S. Government has recruited former Nazis to help beat the Soviet Union in the competition to make it to space. His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey, with the pair attempting to stop Jürgen Voller, a NASA member, and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, who wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit.

There is certainly a lot of pressure on the fifth Indiana Jones outing to succeed, as Harrison Ford has confirmed that it will be his final time sporting the whip and fedora. “I always wanted to do it. I wanted to do the rest of the story to see the end of his career,” Ford explained recently regarding why he wanted to come back for one more adventure, before confirming once and for all that “it’s the last time for me.”

Directed by James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan), Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Antonio Banderas (Uncharted, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther), Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong), Toby Jones (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Oliver Richters (Black Widow), Ethann Isidore (Mortel) and Mads Mikkelsen (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) alongside Harrison Ford.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled for release theatrically on June 30, 2023, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
