Without a Paddle was released in 2004, and is a comedy adventure film directed by Steven Brill, featuring performances from Seth Green, Matthew Lillard, Dax Shepard, Ethan Suplee, Abraham Benrubi, Rachel Blanchard, Christina Moore, Bonnie Somerville, Ray Baker, and Burt Reynolds. It tells the story of childhood friends going on a camping trip that goes quickly wrong. Starr is Billy Newwood in this film, and it was the first time he was introduced to a more global audience.

7 American Gothic
CBS
American Gothic tells the story of a wealthy Boston family (The Hawthornes), who have to try and change public opinion of their family after they discover that their deceased father may have been a serial killer. Starr is Garrett Hawthorne, who returns 14 years after the murders stop, resulting in more chaos. American Gothic premiered in the summer of 2016, but was canceled later that fall after only one season.

Lowdown ran from 2010 to 2012, and was created by Amanda Brotchie and Adam Zwar. The series ran on Australian television and was a success, starring Paul Denny, Beth Buchanan, Dailan Evans, and Kim Gyngell. Lowdown centers around celebrity journalism, and Starr portrays Stuart King, a role that increased his appeal and popularity in his home industry. It’s a shame the series did not run for longer than two seasons despite being nominated for and winning a plethora of major Australian industry awards.

Starring Mathew Macfadyen and Emily Barclay, In My Father’s Den tells a story of a well-known war photographer Paul Prior (Macfadyen), who returns to his hometown in the South Island of New Zealand, where he reunites with his younger brother Andrew (Colin Moy). Andrew convinces him to stay and take care of some family business, but Paul’s return has unlocked some dark secrets from the past. Starr plays Gareth, the boyfriend of Paul’s former girlfriend Jackie (Jodie Rimmer). Gareth resents Paul because of his troublesome attachment to Celia (Barclay), Jackie’s daughter. The film was admired by both critics and audiences alike, scoring a 100% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rush was a police drama that ran from 2008 to 2011, and followed the lives of members of a Police Tactical Response team based in Melbourne. The series was based on the real-life stories of the response team in Victoria, and Starr joined the cast in its final season as Sergeant Charlie Lewis, who was fired in order to go on an undercover mission. The series was a success and helped move Starr’s career forward.
3 Outrageous Fortune

Outrageous Fortune is the series that initially put Starr on the map. He played Jethro West, a twin brother who is the first to graduate and is a generally endearing character. The series lasted six seasons, and Starr received a lot of attention for his performance as Jethro.

Banshee ran from 2013 to 2016 and saw Starr in one of his first leading roles on television, portraying an ex-convict who took on a new identity as Lucas Hood, a sheriff who was murdered in the town of Banshee. The series ran for four seasons and delivered a lot of drama and gripping storylines, making it one of Starr’s best performances.
