A Christmas Carol is a novella by Charles Dickens, first published in London by Chapman & Hall in 1843 and illustrated by John Leech. A Christmas Carol recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man. Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol during a period when the British were exploring and re-evaluating past Christmas traditions.

He was influenced by the experiences of his own youth and by the Christmas stories of other authors, including Washington Irving and Douglas Jerrold. On September 20, 2019, it was announced that Sean Anders and John Morris were attached to write and direct the film, as well as produce under their production company alongside Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, Ryan Reynolds, and George Dewey.

The following month, in December 2019, it was announced that Apple had won a competitive bidding war for the rights to the film. Alongside the initial announcement, Ferrell and Reynolds were cast in main roles. On February 8, 2021, Octavia Spencer joined the cast, with Reynolds, after his affair with Netflix, confirmed as the lead and Ferrell playing the role of the Ghost of Christmas Present. In June, Sunita Mani was cast as Ghost of Christmas Past.

Spirited also features Patrick Page, Aimee Carrero as Nora, Joe Tippett, Marlow Barkley as Wren, Jen Tullock as Wendy, and P.J. Byrne as Mr. Alteli. However, no details of their characters have been revealed.

Release Date

Fans of Christmas-themed movies are in luck, as they will be able to enjoy Spirited not once but twice. For the first time, Spirited is scheduled to have a limited theatrical release on November 11, 2022.
