It would appear that her defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp is not going very well for Amber Heard. Ahead of the trial, there had been a popular petition launched online calling for Heard to be removed from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It had been hovering around 1.8 million signatures before the trial began. Just weeks later, as more and more spectators became aware of the petition, it has officially surpassed 3 million signatures.

The petition, which you can find at Change.org, claims that Heard has been “exposed as a domestic abuser” through Depp’s lawsuit. The description details the incident when Heard allegedly threw a glass bottle at Depp, slicing off the tip of one of his fingers. It also states that Heard had “fabricated incidents” of Depp abusing her, arguing that the evidence doesn’t support these claims. This leads to the demand for Warner Bros. to remove Heard from the film entirely, rather than reducing her role as has been the recent rumor.

Amber Heard Still Has Her Role in Aquaman 2 as of Now

Last year, producer Peter Safran defended the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom team for keeping Amber Heard on board, despite the popularity of the petition. The producer argued that what was “best for the film” was for Heard to be involved, returning alongside fellow Aquaman star Jason Momoa and director James Wan. With that being said, the more signatures that are added to the petition, the more pressure Warner Bros. will be facing to take action. They face the decision of keeping Heard in the film and risking a major effect on ticket sales, spending massive amounts of money that would be required to reshoot her scenes, or remove the character altogether, which could create some narrative problems with the sequel.

In any case, the majority of headlines about Heard in recent weeks have not been on the positive side. The actress has since fired her PR team with the hopes of swaying some of the public perception back into her favor. Her new PR firm, Shane Communications, will have a difficult time with this after all of the information that has already come to light. There have been some very unflattering stories about Heard that’s made it to the press because of the trial.

Heard will be taking the stand to provide her arguments to the allegations made by Johnny Depp during the trial. The pressure is obviously very high for her as well, as the outcome of the trial may have a big impact on not only her role in the DCEU, but other potential projects.
