Arlene Dahl, the famous 1950s actress known for her roles in both films and numerous TV Soap Operas in the yesteryears, passed away yesterday in New York. The actress was 96 at the time of her passing.

Although the red-haired beauty owed her fame to TV and films, she was also a well-known beauty writer and cosmetics executive during the later years of her life. Her early career started out with modelling and she has been a part of the American theater as well, before making it in Hollywood.

Her loss has understandably touched her close ones as well as the TV and film community. Her son, actor Lorenzo Lamas posted his thoughts about his mother’s passing on Facebook:

However, the cause of death is still unknown.

She was the most positive influence on my life. I will remember her laughter, her joy, her dignity as she navigated the challenges that she faced. Never an ill word about anyone crossed her lips. Her ability to forgive left me speechless at times. She truly was a force of nature and as we got closer in my adult life, I leaned on her more and more as my life counselor and the person I knew that lived and loved to the fullest.

Following her career in modelling and theater, Arlene Dahl stepped into the world of Hollywood in 1946. She was initially under a brief contract with Warner Bros. However, she was subsequently signed in by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Her journey with MGM started with the film The Bride Goes Wild, where she starred along with Van Johnson (Three Days to a Kill, Escape from Paradise) and June Allyson (Crazy Like a Fox, The Kid with the Broken Halo). During her run with MGM, she went on to star in films like Journey to the Center of the Earth, Woman’s World, Slightly Scarlet, and Reign of Terror. Her filmography features films outside of her affiliation with MGM as well, like Scene of the Crime, A Southern Yankee, and Jamaica Run.
