Arrow executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and David Nutter are developing a TV series for the DC Comics superhero The Flash. The plan is to introduce the speedy superhero during Season 2 of Arrow, before potentially launching its own series. Here’s what CW Network president Mark Pedowitz had to say during the network’s executive session at the Television Critics Association executive panel earlier today.
Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns are writing the pilot script, with David Nutter, who directed the Arrow, set to direct the first episode of this potential spin-off. The Flash is expected to make its debut in the eighth or ninth episode of Arrow Season 2, with casting for the character to begin this week.
“We plan to introduce a reoccurring character and an origin story of Dr. Barry Allen, who as we now know is The Flash. We’re planning an origin story, we’ll see how it goes and hopefully it will go on.”

Greg Berlanti also spoke about how Barry Allen’s story has always been a favorite of his.
“Barry Allen’s story always has been a favorite of mine, as well as of Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns. We wanted everyone to know about the show as that process commenced. We think it fits well both in terms of Arrow and as a stand-alone series.”
We reported in May that the network is redeveloping the pilot, although it seems they may be going back to square one yet again.
