This story contains spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery Episode 10, “The Galactic Barrier.“In this week’s episode of Star Trek: Discovery, “The Galactic Barrier,” new frontiers were reached, and crew members forged new connections, as the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery finally reached the edge of the Milky Way. Meanwhile, two members of the close-knit team still work in opposition to Captain Michael Burnham’s (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the United Federation of Planets’ goals, Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala) and Ruon Tarka (Shawn Doyle). Up until now, DISCO fans have only been told that Tarka is driven by unimaginable loss. But this week, an extended flashback sequence showing Tarka’s tragic relationship with another scientist named Oros, played by The Flash’s Osric Chau, is the driving force behind his desire to find the Dark Matter Anomaly’s power source.

Chau is a Canadian actor and stuntman, best known for the six seasons he spent playing Kevin Tran in CW’s Supernatural, the network’s longest-running sci-fi/genre series on broadcast television. He also starred as Vogel in the BBC America series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Chau also played Ryan Choi, described as a physics professor with a pivotal role to play in the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline, in TV’s Arrowverse. In 2021, he returned as Ryan Choi for Season 8 of The Flash for the third and fourth parts of its “Armageddon” event.

Chau has been keeping himself busy with acting work lately too. He also has a role in Heroes of the Golden Masks, alongside Christopher Plummer in his final film role before his death in 2021. The actor is also in pre-production for Skate God and Projekt M, the latter of which is directed by Jason Priestley.

Chau’s Oros put a face to Tarka’s loss, and the actor did an incredible job emoting through the prosthetics. And a lot of Chau’s fans were excited to see the actor appear on DISCO too, including the actor himself! Chau said, “Definitely one of the coolest filming experiences I’ve had. As expected, the Trekkie community welcomed him to the family with open arms. In response to Chau’s tweet, many Star Trek Universe actors took to Twitter to congratulate him on an outstanding performance. The legendary Anthony Rapp, who plays Commander Stamets on the series, tweeted, “Beautiful work!!!” While Bonnie Gordon, who portrays the U.S.S. Protostar’s computer on Star Trek: Prodigy said, “You were fantastic! 🖖🏼.”

Even the actor’s former co-star’s congratulated him on an excellent job. Chau played the recurring role of Kevin Tran in Supernatural. His former WB/CW co-star Rachel Miner, who played Meg Masters on the television series, tweeted, “Love that your kindness shines through whatever species you are x.”
