The hit series Atlanta is returning for a very much highly anticipated third season. The news comes after a long three-year hiatus from TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The brand new third season will premiere the first two episodes airing on Thursday, March 24th at 10 p.m. on FX. The epsiodes will also stream the following day on Hulu.

The series focuses on a college dropout played by Donald Glover who is just going though his daily life in Atlanta while trying to redeem himself in the eyes of his ex-girlfirend, who just happens to be mother to his daughter. The story shows Glover bouncing from home to home, enjoying his stagnant life until his cousin starts to hit superstardom in the rap game. It could be his only shot to make a change in his life since he dropped out of Princeton University.

The series has won five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes, among other accolades over the course of their first two seasons. FX will run a new teaser trailer on ESPN and ABC’s slate of NBA games on Christmas Day.

The third season takes place entirely in Europe, and finds “Earn” (Glover), “Alfred / ‘Paper Boi’” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield) and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigates their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to their newfound success. A lot has changed in the world and with this group since the second season, which was subtitled Atlanta Robbin’ Season and aired back in 2018. Over the course of the show’s first two seasons, Atlanta was nominated for 22 Emmy Awards and won 5, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Glover.

“We are thrilled to have Atlanta back with a new season on Mar. 2r,” Eric Schrier, president of FX Entertainment, said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “Once again, Donald Glover, the producers, and stellar cast have delivered another signature season synonymous with the excellence that makes Atlanta so great.”

The pandemic and Glover’s work schedule made production on the comedy difficult to map out, as Seasons 3 and 4 had been intended to shoot back-to-back after the fourth-season pickup was announced in August 2019. Atlanta is executive produced by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, Stefani Robinson, Paul Simms and Dianne McGunigle. “Atlanta” is produced by FX Productions.
